Rodney Carney returns to the Sixers
This signing makes me ecstatic. Rodney Carney was always one of my favorite Sixers, mainly because I have an unhealthy infatuation with uber-athletes. And don't look past the fact that Carney averaged 1.7 threes on 35% shooting after the all-star break last season. That's not a bad for a guy who's A) familiar with the team B) Athletic enough to run n' gun with the team, and C) Who's defense isn't as bad as Jason Kapono's.

I was pretty upset that we got rid of him instead of Bill but I guess Minny wanted the cheaper player

Carney improved SO MUCH in Minnesota.
His three-point shot started out as all air-ball. Then he scored every single three. He also has great speed and dunking ability.
We know all about the athletic ability, and his three-point shot was coming around during his final days in Philly. He really seemed to put it together for the past couple months in Minny though. I’m glad he’s back.
Cause he’s really not that good and on a team going nowhere why commit money to a 7/8 guy when you don’t even have a starting 5?

He's started for the Wolves before.
And the Timberwolves aren’t going “nowhere” as you said. They’re going somewhere, but nobody knows where.
Oh – lots of people know where…it’s called lotteryland

Ugh.
I hate people who underestimate the Wolves. They might not be the best, they might not make the playoffs, but they’ll do better than last season.
yeah maybe you’ll catch the warriors this season. dream big.

i hate people who over estimate how good their teams really are cause they’re ‘fans’ so they think they know better.
Drafted two point guards, one of whom won’t play for 2 years and the other guy is kind of short…al jefferson is good if he can stay healthy and kevin love is great if you don’t require defense.
Ownership is a shambles, took forever to decide to fire Kevin McHale (which should have been done years ago), and the new GM seems to be a buffoon based on his actions this summer…fans don’t show up to support the team so they don’t have money to spend on long term deals.
But they just made a 2 for 1 swap with Washington so I’m sure they’ll be better now.
I’m sorry if you feel like your team is ‘underappreciated’ but they are one of the five worst teams in the NBA roster wise and one of the 5 worst teams in the NBA in terms of front office /ownership
that doesn’t bode well…
Seriously – aside from KG – the wolves draft history is spotty at best – you got lucky with KG – had a nice run – but I see nothing that indicates the people running the wolves have a clue.

We also drafted Ray Allen... lol.
Sorry, but Al Jefferson is “good”??? He’s great, he’s amazing, best post player in the league, possibly 2nd, but it’s pretty equal. Kevin Love averaged like 15 points and 10 rebounds when Big Al was out. His defense could improve, and it will over time.
And Brandon Roy. We have great luck in the draft.
What other team has drafted players like Ray Allen, Brandon Roy, Kevin Garnett, O.J. Mayo, Mario Chalmers in the 2nd round, Christian Laettner, J.R. Rider, etc…
You named 8 players in a 17 year period. I don’t think that’s impressive, especially considering the players you named: Laettner and Rider had a couple decent years with the Wolves but then left and flamed out, never great pros. The thing about Allen, Roy, Mayo, and Chalmers is that none of them played a minute for Minnesota. Citing them as evidence of a good draft when they were traded on or soon after draft day is not an argument. Garnett was a high school kid you got lucky on almost 15 years ago.
Over the course of 20 or so years, teams are bound to draft solid pro’s. The wolves have, to their misfortune, traded away all the ones that would have helped the franchise.

not to mention that using roy and chalmers after one year is especially silly since, well, it’s one year.
It’s grasping for straws…and it’s ok…sixers fans do it too…an I call them on it as well…

That should have been mayo – not roy

I'd rather we brought in a little
Christmas cheer. Carney is deep bench and nothing more. Why not give Dionte a chance. This season is just a long practice session with 2010-2011 as the year we climb the respectability ladder.
Both FA signees have six letters in their first and last names. Rodney Carney and Primoz Brezec. Clearly this means something.
carney
i agree, it was a good move. I always like him too
