Become an NBA GM via PASPN

Update: Click here to play.

If you're a fantasy freak like myself or just looking for something NBA-related to be involved in, this is for you. Our friends from PASPN have been kind enough to create an official Liberty Ballers league where you will have the opportunity to either become the GM of an NBA franchise or the agent of a handful of NBA superstars. Take a look...

Be the GM of the NBA team of your choice. Be quick, only 30 teams are available, and of course, everyone will want to pick the Philadelphia 76ers. Who knows? Maybe you can take the OKC Thunder and win one of these?

Don't like the way David Lee handled the Trevor Ariza negotiations? You can play as an agent. Sign players, and negotiate deals with the GM's. This is a great way to become smarter about the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, and an even better way to stay informed about our favorite sport. Plus, it's FUN!

It starts August 19, so do it now. Reserve your spot.

Note: I realize this might be short notice considering the league is set to start August 19, but I'm sure the guys over at PASPN can push it back if necessary.

Click though for details

Star-divide

Overview:

There will be 30 General Manager spots available: one for each NBA franchise. Since this is a new league, we will start by taking over each team's existing contracts. After that, it's up to you to re-tool your team via trades, draft picks, and free agent signings to form the best team that you can. Since PASPN leagues are governed by the rules of the NBA's collective bargaining agreement (CBA), the Mock GM game mixes fantasy basketball playing with the realities of the business of the NBA.

Once the NBA regular season begins, we will compete in an 18-week Head-to-Head season, where each team has a new opponent every week. You start 8 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, UTIL, UTIL, UTIL), and whoever scores more fantasy points wins the matchup. The scoring system is based on NBA.com's Efficiency rating: ((PTS + TRB + AST + STL + BLK) - ((FGA - FGM) + (FTA - FTM) + TOV )). The top 16 teams qualify for the Playoffs, which take place during the final 4 weeks of the regular season.

I joined.

I strongly encourage giving this a shot guys. I’m in.

The teams can be selected starting August 19, so if you a specific team in mind, make sure you’re logged in on Wednesday to get the team you want.

I’ll save the Sixers for someone else :)

I'm In

If we need more people we I could post a link at realgm and recliner gm… I’ll hold off for now.

Looks like you can’t pick a team until 8/19. I’d gladly take the Sixers, but I’m fine taking someone else (if I have to.)

I wouldn’t be opposed to any team. The Thunder is the obvious choice.

And yeah.

We might need more people, so feel free to post wherever and whenever you want.

I signed up as an agent because I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for this, my fall is about to get hella busy and I have some other irons in the fire…

Was trying to figure out what an agent’s goals are for this league.

It sound like you get a bonus based on how much salary your players get. Also, GM’s only start 8 players, so if you can get someone to sign a marginal player who will put them in their active roster it will help with the agent’s fantasy scoring once the season starts.

But for the most part, it seems like teams would re-sign good FA’s, sice they have Bird rights and it is in the team and agents mutual best interest to re-sign. for the GM they won’t want to lose the scoring. for the agent, the Bird right’s team can pay the most.

In the real NBA teams are scared off by the tax, but unless this league goes multiple years, I don’t see the tax as a huge deterent to re-sign quality FA’s.

If possible...

I would take (if possible) Charlotte since they are in North Carolina (have to get rid of that damn Dookie though LOL).

Question

Do we re-do the nba draft ??? I was looking through the leagues settings, and saw the 2009 prospect list without any teams assigned to the players.

by Skeptic on Aug 17, 2009 12:27 AM PDT reply actions

Yes we re-do the draft. It takes place 10 days after the league starts.

Man

This sounds to interesting and I have a feeling a week into it, it’ll be in my back burner once I’m back up at the Rut. Plus, NFL season/Fantasy football takes up some time. Damn you college.

only need a few more teams

Don’t really recognize all the names, but there are players from depressed fan, realgm, reclinergm and here. Hope it turns out to be cool, still not exactly sure how the league works beyond the description on the site.

It does seem a bit confusing. You are sort of left on your own to arrange moves with other GM’s and Agents. Sounds like things will start like they did the beginning of this summer (with Miller, Gortat, Hedo as FA’s and no draft yet.)

The scoring is also somewhat hard to understand. It uses a version of Eff. But you use the top 8 players on your roster in a head to head. I think that favors teams/players with a faster pace and high percentages.
