I would love love love to have C.J. Watson, but would hate hate hate to have Jamaal Tinsley.

Thoughts?

They won’t get CJ Watson

ANd Tinsley on a one year deal trying to redeem himself might not be a bad idea – he’s not going to get a lot of money from anyone – so it’s the kind of low risk high reward thing – if he doesn’t work out you just cut his ass…

Hell give his contract a ‘guarantee’ date like a second round draft pick – so you can send him on his way without too much money if he is detrimental to the team up to the trade deadline or something like that.

They have to get a point guard with a clue – and i’m not sure cj watson has more of a clue than lou how to run an offense anyway

Totally agree with jemagee.

Tinsley has a better idea of how to run the point, and right now that is what we need. If Miller leaves, we would need someone to step in, and right now, Lou is not the answer.

Tinsley.

Didn’t play last year.

He misses an average of 19 games a year when he does play.

He’s a career 39% shooter (30% from three).

His turnover percentage is 21%.

Again, he didn’t play last year.

Where do you find TO percentage?

here.

BTW Lou’s and CJ’s are both 13 — given they handle the ball a lot less.

But wouldn't you rather have

A guy for one year, cheap, who has started before and knows how to run the point rather than another guy for two or three years who hasn’t really proved anything yet?

If you can shoot, you can shoot, and I’d rather have Watson — who will shoot well regardless if he can play point guard — for 2 years at 5 million than Tinsley at 1 year 35k.

I think point guard is too important of a position to just rely on someone who can shoot better

Tinsley has a good assist average. If he can stay away from injury, guns, and intimidation charges I think he can be better suited for the role.

haha yeah true

but I`m trying to look at it optimistically…as if he changed his ways from a thuggish past.

by jefu on Jul 23, 2009 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s not his “thuggish” past that bothers me. He can’t stay healthy, he’s been out of the league for over a year, and he sucks!

He shot 39 percent for his career. Seriously? The Princeton offense needs decent shooters at the very least.

by Jordan Sams on Jul 23, 2009 9:05 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s still better. He also doesn’t miss 20 games a year (knock on wood).

by Jordan Sams on Jul 23, 2009 10:03 PM PDT up reply actions

He’s also never started in the NBA
and he’s never been a point guard

Jamaal Tinsley still sucks! lol

We’re just going to have to agree to disagree, and if we do sign him, someone is going to have an “I told you so” comment.

by Jordan Sams on Jul 24, 2009 7:22 AM PDT up reply actions

So does Lou Williams though

Williams is at best a sixth man shooting guard off the bench – if he’s handed the starting point guard job – it’s going to suck.

Though, the sixers are doing a great job this off season in making me lose interest

At least we know Lou will be healthy and stay out of trouble. Tinsley can’t seem to do either.

And yeah, this off-season has been a C+ at best.

I’m just saying, tinsley has experience running and offense and something to prove – i mean it’s a one year deal – and cj watson isn’t coming here for on eyear

I think we’re putting too much emphasis on “experience”. Yes, it’s important, but you can’t just dismiss Tinsley’s awful career because he’s “experienced”.

Honestly, I’d be more comfortable with Lou. Let Iguodala bring the ball up most of the time and run the offense through the Brand and Thad.

If Lou can shoot at least 43%, and 35% from three we’ll be fine.

Probably one of the other vets like Knight, Dixon, Jackson, Hart, etc.

I’m still a Marcus Williams advocate, but it will never happen.

by Jordan Sams on Jul 23, 2009 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions

I don`t think Lou can shoot that well, at least, he has yet to show that much maturity in his shot selection.

But I think if Tinsley proves to be a mistake, Lou can take over….that would be the worst possible scenario if Tinsley was acquired.

by jefu on Jul 23, 2009 7:57 PM PDT up reply actions

Lou shot 42 and 36 two years ago.

by Jordan Sams on Jul 23, 2009 8:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Ah nevermind, so they were about the same...but

I think his year by year averages play a bigger part…it shows inconsistency.

by jefu on Jul 23, 2009 8:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Tinsley is consistently bad though.

by Jordan Sams on Jul 23, 2009 9:02 PM PDT up reply actions

I just hate him for the Sixers and this offense.

In Michael Irvin’s words: “Jamaal, the Sixers can’t use you. You might play for somebody, but not Phildelphia. Sorry, you’re cut.”

by Jordan Sams on Jul 23, 2009 9:47 PM PDT up reply actions

and could get tinsley on the cheap, since most teams wont want anything to do with him

by mopey on Jul 23, 2009 1:31 PM PDT reply actions

For Tinsley

Yeah, he’s not well liked, but as John stated earlier, this could be his redemption year.

Realistically, we know the sixers want a one year deal – Watson turned down a one year deal from us (we should’ve offered him more, but apparently we’re trying to be cheap this off-season). I don’t know who else we’d have a realistic shot at signing.

Tinsley will probably take almost whatever he can get, so the odds are in favor of us signing him.

Maybe, Jordan, you’ll change your mind when you see Tinsley in one of our sexy new uniforms?
