Possible Reunion Between 76ers and Korver?
The Philadelphia 76ers have recently hired Eddie Jordan as their new head coach. With Jordan, comes his offensive system that the 76ers need some new personnel for. The Princeton offense.
The offense is not that complex, but one of the biggest needs for the offense to succeed is some pure shooters, something the 76ers so not have at this point.
This off-season the Sixers have a chance to capitalize on their weakness by signing at least two proven shooters, if all goes well for the Sixers.
For starters, Kyle Korver, remember him, has a possibility of testing free agency. The Utah Jazz hold am early termination option on Korver. This means that if the Jazz feel that they are paying too much for Korver, they could let him loose without paying him the rest of his contract.
This is the best possible news for the Sixers right now. General Manager Ed Stefanski traded away Korver almost as soon as he arrived in Philly, but that was because he did not fit the Sixers system at the time. Now, that the Sixers are in need of a pure shooter like Korver, they probably scoop him up if he would hit the market.
Other possibilities are Eddie House, who has a player option. If House would opt out of his current contract, the Sixers would sweep him up as well. House would be in the top five pure shooters on the market. The only problem would be House's age. He is 31, so the Sixers could not lock him up in a long term deal like they could Korver. House would be a perfect fit in the Sixers new system, and would allow the Sixers to let go of Willie Green, who does not have any business in this system.
The best possible player that the Sixers could pick up this off-season would be Hedo Turkoglu. Turkoglu has an early termination option as well. If the Magic do not win the NBA Finals, Turkoglu would likely opt out of his contract. Turkoglu wants the big bucks, and with the Magic giving all of their money to Rashard Lewis, they will probably not have enough money to pay Hedo what he wants.
Surprisingly, Ben Gordon is an unrestricted free agent this summer. Gordon is an incredible scorer who is basically unstoppable when he gets going, and is on a roll. Gordon would be cheaper than Turkoglu, and would be a perfect fit in the system, but would just be another guard that the Sixers have to find minutes for.
The Sixers may not have enough money to pay Turkoglu, but they could still pay Korver or House of they wanted to. The bottom line is that the Sixers need a shooter to make the Princeton offense successful in Philadelphia. So, look for the Sixers to be big players in every conversation that involves a shooter like the four that were mentioned. They have a lot of options, and even more flexibility with Andre Miller going on the market, and the front office looking to replace him. Korver or House would be the more likely options over Hedo or Gordon.

Why is it surprising that Ben Gordon is an unrestricted free agent this year?
Korver would be kind of silly to opt out – he’s a god in utah – and there aren’t a lot of teams with a lot of money to pay a bench player like Korver.

Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

Turkoglu is 30 – and will want a lot of money and a long term deal – not likely and I wouldn’t give it to him – he’s going to slow down soon I believe.
House is probably the easiest to obtain and the most fungible…two words….james posey.
House is a year to year contract guy, you don’t give him a long term deal, he’s the guy I use to talk about why willie green never should have gotten a long term deal

Only one I could really see is House. No way Korver opts out — he’s probably worth less money that he’s getting. Sixers can’t afford Ben Gordon, or Turkoglu, plus Turk plays the same position as Iggy and Thad. House is a good shooter, but I’m not sure if I’d want him because: (a) he’ll probably cost more than he’s worth and the Sixers don’t have much money and (b) he seems like more of an luxury to a team that already has a championship core.

I disagree, Korver has a pretty solid contract for being one of the best 3 point shooters in the league, one of the better deals Billy King ever signed.

Blake Ahearn.
Cheap and attainable — and probably a better shooter than all these guys.
Write it down.

I would
probably most like to see Ben Gordon. Is it going to happen? A very strong NO, but it’s wishful thinking.
Kyle Korver, although an outside, is possible. I"ve heard Boozer will probably not come back to the jazz, so I don’t know how that will affect the Korver situation.
Turkoglu? No thank you.
Eddie House is probably the most plausible option. Will it happen? hard to say. His contract history says it will be a short-term deal. I think the money has to be there to make him leave boston, and possibly a more significant role. Not to mention learning the new offense…
