2-2
2-2
Enemy: Third Quarter Collapse
Prediction: Magic
Opponent's 3P%: 10.0 - 26.2 (38%)
Preview
Series: Tied 2-2
Probable starters:
Andre Miller PG Rafer Alston
Bill Green SG Courtney Lee
Andre Iguodala SF Hedo Turkoglu
Thaddeus Young PF Rashard Lewis
Samuel Dalembert C Dwight Howard

Are the Sixers done? I've said it before and I'll say it again, do not count this team out. If I had to give my keys to the game, they'd be simple -- shoot well and play good defense. The biggest key of the series was to shut down the three, and the Sixers have done a good job of that, yet they're still tied 2-2. The Magic are supposed to dominate tonight, but everything in this series has gone differently than expected, so who knows. Game five, let's do this!

Here’s just hoping that Game 4 wasn’t one of those ‘back breaker’ kind of games and they come out flat the next two

"Someone created the box score," Morey says, "and he should be shot."

Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

I am still a little down about the loss in game 4 but the positives I have taken out are that our two best players didn’t have good games and they still needed a last second shot to beat us.

3rd quarter

I’m trusting that our guys feel as though they can win this series of they just play up to their potential. I’m most concerned about our play in the 3rd quarter, which seems to always lapse and force us into an uphill climb in the 4th.

Like everyone, they know what needs to be done. A Sixers win and they can come home to wrap up the series on Thursday!

they need to pull WG fast if he is struggling

Both Green and Lou have been bad- but I have more confidence in Lou on the road. Or maybe even bring in Ivey. Just don’t stay with Green all 3rd when they are getting nothing.

No team has displayed the winning ability of putting their foot down when they get a lead. Comebacks (near ro completed) every game. Wonder if either team will be able to impose their will for a full game?

On the flip side - however

When willie starts off hot, don’t pull him – there was no reason to pull him early in game 4 when he was in his groove – yet another in a long line of questionable coaching moves by the (hopefully) returning to the front office soon Tony DiLeo. Streak shooters should be ridden when they’re hot until they stop being hot…pull them too soon and then you waste what you got.

not a coincidence...

that the 3rd quarter is always what buries us. DiLeo gets outcoached at halftime. The opposing coach makes the proper adjustments based on the 1st half and we do not.

agree?

Fact.

I think it has a lot to do with Bill playing though.

by Jordan Sams on Apr 28, 2009 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually, I disagree with myself.

It’s because DiLeo shys away from Thad and starts running plays for Bill and Sam.

by Jordan Sams on Apr 28, 2009 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

Bill was strong in the first quarter last game and then pulled

class tonight – until 10 – won’t see the game – hoping i don’t consider that a blessing

Lou

I think Lou can get his grove alot faster than Willie? Lou makes mistakes but usually it is when he is trying. Green just makes mistakes. But, let Green shoot if hot.

We need to learn to ride our hot players. All this year, we have not done that but I think tonight they will because they will realize they MUST WIN. If we lose tonight, I think it maybe the series, whether Thursday or Saturday. And, if we win tonight, I think it also is the series on Thursday!

cheap ass college

won’t give us NBA TV. We have ESPNU and Big Ten Network though. both of which were nice during the NCAA tournament season.

by chillicothe20 on Apr 28, 2009 4:28 PM PDT up reply actions

i don’t even get espnu…. one good thing is that we get nbc, cbs, fox, abc, cw in hd…. but i agree with cheap ass college comment

by Tanner Steidel on Apr 28, 2009 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions

no hd here

lots of worthless channels here (extra PBS’s, local access and such too)

by chillicothe20 on Apr 28, 2009 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions

I feel

close loss, but maybe we can keep it together and win.

by chillicothe20 on Apr 28, 2009 4:32 PM PDT up reply actions

i think it will be just like all the other games

both teams make big runs each and it ends up being close down the stretch

by Tanner Steidel on Apr 28, 2009 4:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Gut feeling...loss.

But that don’t mean nothing. This team has proved me wrong a ton this season.

by Jordan Sams on Apr 28, 2009 4:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Aren't we 0 fer a billion

In game 5’s? OK, that’s an exaggeration. I forget the exact stat, but it’s not good.

by doubleh on Apr 28, 2009 4:34 PM PDT up reply actions

i STILL maintain the Sixers can't win this series. I won't say we're lucky to have gotten this far...

but I can’t see two more wins no matter how I cut it.
Tonight, though? I don’t know. This will come down to play in the final minute again.

by Saul on Apr 28, 2009 4:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Hypothetically.

If we end up upsetting Orlando, will people still look at it as them choking or will we get any credit?

by Jordan Sams on Apr 28, 2009 4:35 PM PDT reply actions

choke job

it’s what the NHL people are saying about the Ducks upending the Sharks.

by chillicothe20 on Apr 28, 2009 4:35 PM PDT up reply actions

5 on 4.

And Miller throws the stupidest pass of the series.

by Jordan Sams on Apr 28, 2009 4:52 PM PDT reply actions

foul called

dwight whines….. surprise… it’s like reggie

by Tanner Steidel on Apr 28, 2009 5:04 PM PDT reply actions

CSN announcers apoplectic

About travels and fouls not being called on Howard. Funny stuff.

by doubleh on Apr 28, 2009 5:24 PM PDT reply actions

Said the fans had some nerve booing Iggy

After he lassoed him to the floor…considering Howard elbowed Sammy in the head.

by doubleh on Apr 28, 2009 5:26 PM PDT up reply actions

threadjack

Hamels turns his ankle tonight in his start after 5 innings attempting to field a bunt attempt. Doesn’t look good. /end jack

by doubleh on Apr 28, 2009 5:27 PM PDT reply actions

They say crowd is amped for game

but Magic don’t seem to be feeding on it well.

by chillicothe20 on Apr 28, 2009 5:38 PM PDT reply actions

nice defense reggie

o wait when you let someone wide open under the basket it’s called BAD defense… my mistake

by Tanner Steidel on Apr 28, 2009 5:42 PM PDT reply actions

We averaged 27 FTA on the season.

This series:

Orlando has 25, 30, 29, 20.

Philly has 20, 18, 26, 15.

by Jordan Sams on Apr 28, 2009 5:47 PM PDT reply actions

zero chance.

For that elbow? No way.

by Saul on Apr 28, 2009 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions

yet Amare can get suspended for standing up…. it def won’t happen though

by Tanner Steidel on Apr 28, 2009 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions

down only six is a bargain....

…since we played like crap

(jordan I’m trying a new tactic, posting on two sites’ game threads and only at the half, LOL)

id like to see thad assert himself more on the offensive end. the last two weeks before he got hurt, he was really taking control and since his injury he hasn’t had the same confidence. he’s gotta get that back for us to win the series.

by Michael Levin on Apr 28, 2009 6:07 PM PDT reply actions

Uhh

I’ll admit I didn’t watch this team most of the year, but without fastbreak pts, how did they ever score in the half court?

by phillynyc on Apr 28, 2009 6:12 PM PDT reply actions

uhh

what i hate about the nba playoffs – it usually boils down to 1-on-1 play.

by phillynyc on Apr 28, 2009 6:16 PM PDT up reply actions

uhh

seriously, is this an NBA team out there right now?

by phillynyc on Apr 28, 2009 6:13 PM PDT reply actions

So after a TO - lob for a dunk.

No TO, Iggy drives right into a defender and gets a call – gotta love the NBA. Why can’t they call plays like a good college team.

by phillynyc on Apr 28, 2009 6:22 PM PDT reply actions

All I've been saying

It’s like DiLeo doesn’t value big guys that have any semblance of offense. Theo and Sam are nice, but can someone please score the basketball? You have no idea how difficult it is to post here without cursing my face off.

by Michael Levin on Apr 28, 2009 6:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Down 9 at the 4th?

Haven’t we seen this movie before?

by doubleh on Apr 28, 2009 6:32 PM PDT reply actions

Bos-Chi

Locked at 91 with 1 min to go.

by doubleh on Apr 28, 2009 6:34 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, lots of drama

And Allen got death threats in Chi, too. Can you believe that crap?

by doubleh on Apr 28, 2009 6:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Back to Philly

I don’t have a good feeling. The 76ers just don’t have the players. I mean they’re playing Ratliff and Marshall up front. 10 years ago – fine, but now now. Forcing a game 7 would be fun. And now I understand all the criticism of Sammy on this blog – he’s a big oaf with no O, no offensive rebounding and really isn’t that good defensively.

by phillynyc on Apr 28, 2009 7:07 PM PDT reply actions

Well

This is the Sixers offense we all know and love. Ugh.
