Game 4: Magic @ Sixers game thread

Orlando Magic at Philadelphia 76ers, Apr 26, 2009 3:30 PM PDT

1-2
2-1
Enemy: Third Quarter Collapse
Prediction: Sixers
Opponent's 3P%: 10.0 - 26.2 (38%)
Preview
Series: Sixers lead 2-1
Probable starters:
Rafer Alston PG Andre Miller
Courtney Lee SG Bill Green
Hedo Turkoglu SF Andre Iguodala
Rashard Lewis PF Thaddeus Young
Dwight Howard C Samuel Dalembert

The difference between a 3-1 series lead and a 2-2 tie is monumental. The Sixers were placed in this same scenario last year, and took a 10-point lead into the locker room. Whether is was complacency, experience, or sheer talent, the Pistons came out in the second half and dominated the Sixers for the remainder of the series. Will history repeat itself? I hope not.

A win tonight would be huge, huge, huge. The Magic would be against the ropes, the "experts" heads would explode, and Hell would freeze over. Let's do this!

If you need a little extra pumping up this morning here ya go:

Iguodala

Thad

Zumoff

One thing I failed to mention in my recap was how good the Philadelphia crowd sounded on TV. Even though the game wasn't sold out, the fans who were there made up for it. Let's get a repeat performance shall we? "Reggie, Reggie, Reggie!"

Let's do the thang Sixerland! Shock the world!

So as I asked on BGN today – in honor of the holiday – how would that make today different than any other daay?

 Bulls/Celtics ugly but close game

In hindsight.

Wouldn’t it be sick if we saved our money and signed Ben this off-season?

Miller, Gordon, Iggy, Thad, Sam.

the best part about that is no bill

but seriously this game is making me nervous and i don’t care who wins… and then we have the sixers i may have a heart attack today

Ben Gordon wanted sick cash compared to what he’s worth…brand was the proper, correct, and better signing.

I personally would still rather see how to get Hinrich if possible – though he’s showing in the playoffs that he’s pretty darn good.

hypothetical

if miller wants too much this off-season is it possible to get him on the mle?

by Tanner Steidel on Apr 26, 2009 1:34 PM PDT up reply actions

Hinrich or Ben Gordon?

Hinrich has a long term deal – can’t get him except via trade?

Gordon on the MLE? I doubt it – he’ll be one of the sought after FA’s for teams with cap room, and the pistons are going to have some big makeover moves.

Nope – I don’t hate the lakers at all – not as a team – i don’t hate kobe – as a player – i hate him as a human and have since he entered the league due to some ‘inside information’ regarding his LMHS behavior – but I don’t think the Laker PLAYERS have the sense of entitlement

Plus – honestly – laker fans are FAR less annoying than knicks fans

EXACTLY – New York Sports fans are the worst – they feel they are ENTITLED to have their teams be taken seriously as playoff contenders just because they are in new york – even when they suck (knicks) or choke year after year after year (mets)

Sure lakers fans are cocky – but give em a break – their ownership has as much money as they want to spend due to the value of their seats (someone on local radio pointed it out – that no matter what happens in the eocnomy – the laker seats are SO DAMN EXPENSIVE that the lakers can take almost any luxury tax hit and still be profitable)

John.

Never believe I got your official thoughts on the game-winners.

by Jordan Sams on Apr 26, 2009 2:49 PM PDT reply actions

The game winners shots or the newspaper cartoon you posted today?

Game winners are nice – and yes it’s great that the sixers have had them but i’d rather win either game going away – making the FTs down the stretch so the game winners aren’t necessary – if you watch that play with Thad – come on – that was luck – he was covered, he lost the ball and somehow recvered it.

Andres was better – but it ain’t andres game, in fact it’s his biggest weakness you’re depending on to win that game – honestly – a play that calls for Andre Iguodala to take the sixers last shot (depending on the game) is a play call I quesiton – regardless of outcome – he’s a finisher – send him to the basket.

Tonights game is pivotal for a lot of reasons but honestly – i’ve seen nothing to make me believe the sixers have a real shot of winning this series – if they lose tonight the series is just ‘on track’

I mean last year the hawks took the celtics to 7 but i never thought they had a shot to BEAT the celtics (and the whole point differential thing was laughable) in the series :)

I think maybe if you believe in ‘character’ building – ti’s been nice – but up until that last basket in game 3 – thad had a craptastic game

They didn’t draft anybody flashy, just a lot of guys who’ll contribute on special teams.

They lost Owens – which while a locker room improvement makes their receiving core weaker – roy williams is grossly over rated and the rest of your receivers make the eagles receivers look like pro bowlers.

The Cowboys weren’t better than the giants or eagles last year – both those teams got better and the cowboys did very little to get better.

And they still have wade philips

I don’t like that most serious are playing game FOUR yesterday and today….including the spurs mavs – right? So they’re a full game behind – that series goes long – spurs mavericks end early and the winner gets a HUGE rest advantage.

Don’t start 4 series on the same day unless you’re going to keep them on the same schedule…you want to maximize playoff ratings – run 2 games every day

by jemagee on Apr 26, 2009 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't have a problem with it. From a big-picture standpoint, that's the story of this series - the Magic not being able to get it going, and the Sixers shocking them.

The fact remains that Orlando was supposed to be a titan of these playoffs and the Sixers just another EC team. The fact that they’re losing is a bigger story than that the Sixers are winning.

by Saul on Apr 26, 2009 3:39 PM PDT up reply actions

But it implies a dismissal of the sixers – not that they’re doing anything right – just that the magic are doing things wrong – it’s insulting to the roster – to what they have accomplished – and it ignores all things the sixers have done and just says ‘oh well – the magic will play better and then put the sixers away’

Hell the hawks got more respect against the Cletics last year than the sixers are getting
