Race to the Four Seed

I'm in my morning class doing scholarly things -- obviously. Anyway, I took a quick break to look at the Sixers remaining schedule, and I wandered over to the Hawks schedule and something caught my eye. First look at this.

Eastern Conference
Team

GB

4.  x-Atlanta 16.5
5.  Miami 20.0
6.  Philadelphia 20.5
Forgot the five seed! Let's set our sights on the fourth seed. And yes, you can blame me if I jinx it, but look at the Hawks next five games.

BOS

LAL

@PHI

@BOS

ORL

And the Sixers next five games...

CHA

@DET

ATL

MIL

DET

With 12 games remaining, a four game deficit seems difficult to make up, but look at the upcoming five-game stretches for each team and tell me it isn't possible. You can't!

Let the race to the four seed begin.

Gah, that has to be a jinx! Let’s focus on hopefully getting the 5 seed first. Miami plays the second night of a back to back after a tough loss tonight. Sixers need to TCB in the next couple of games. Last night was pretty encouraging that they can beat bad teams (as odd a statement as that may seem). The Hawks and especially the Heat need big performances by their main guys (Joe Johnson and D-Wade respectively) to win, so hopefully those guys will be wearing down because of all they’ve had to do over the season.

I know I jinxed it.

Gosh dangit. Now we’re going to lose 8 of 12 and get the 7th seed.

Not to be a nudge – but what’s the heat’s next 5 games look like – the sixers have to pass TWO teams to get to the four seed – not just one

"Someone created the box score," Morey says, "and he should be shot."

Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

It’s POSSIBLE that the hawks lose their next five and the sixers win their next five – but I can’t say I have faith that either of those things will happen.

Hawks will win at least one of those non sixer games – they’re not terrible at home

The sixes will probably be 3-2 in the next five

hawks go 2-3 in the next five

sixers only make up one game.

4’s a little high – i’ll settle for 5 – playing the hawks in the first round is the goal (avoiding cleveland/boston/orlando in the first round is the real goal)

"Someone created the box score," Morey says, "and he should be shot."

I agree with the goal.

But I’d love to have that extra home game.

How sad is it I don’t have to click on the link and i already know what it’ll go to :)

Actually it’s more of a memorable scene pop culture meme thing
honestly – i’ve never seen the entire movie but i know that scene
and the most annoying ssound in the world

Jim Carrrey’s best ‘moron’ picture is liar liar
Jim carrey’s best picture period is the truman show

i’ve seen both numerous times

I own Truman Show and Liar Liar.

Liar Liar is awesome, can’t argue there.

But even though I own Truman Show, I still haven’t seen it. I’ll probably watch that and Slumdog this weekend.

Watch it – it’s a great film – very ‘anti’ jim carrey though – so don’t expect the outrageous ness – but still a great film

Sixers versus hawks – sixers win in 6 or less – so extra home game irrelevant

Hollinger thinks sixers get the 5 seed (at least)
He also thinks it means all the games will get crappy time slots (Maybe even NBA TV) since the ‘nation’ won’t be interested in a series that doens’t have Wade

It's unfortunate.

But yeah, Sixers/Hawks would probably be the least appealing matchup in the entire playoffs.

NBATV it is. That’s fine. Our second round matchup will be big time :)

I was just telling my father

this morning that we’d have a fully winnable schedule left, except for three of our last four (2 w/CLE, 1 BOS). Plus, those games may mean little to Cleveland or Boston in mid-April. Four seed or bust!

by chillicothe20 on Mar 26, 2009 2:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think they’ll mean very little to cleveland – i think they’ll have the one seed sewn up by then because they are just beastly at home (the sixers will lose the one at cleveland because cleveland will want to be 40-1 at home) – but Boston might still be fighting for the 2seed/3seed which is vitally important 2nd round time
