Question for Blazers fans.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on Gregory…

When I ask my best friend Jason (Blazer’s fan) if he regrets them not taking Durant instead, he shuns me. My question is why?

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 5:12 PM PDT reply actions

My thoughts on Grg Odn...

Right now he is just a dumb rook who can’t stay out of foul trouble…and still gets double doubles like a mad man. Durant is one of the top five worst defenders in the entire NBA. We are the second best offensive team in the NBA (behind lakers (whom we also defeated)). We have guys who can score the ball. How many teams in the NBA can say they have two legit centers? Greg is just having trouble staying healthy, but his injuries are all in different parts of his body, it’s not any recurring injury. Big guys get hurt, and big rookies all go through foul trouble. His micro knee is not fully healthy yet (that takes 2 years). I am obviously biased but, Greg was, will be and will be the correct pick. Our center position is on lock down for the next 10 years (that is a big freaking deal in the NBA). Durant is a good scorer but we have Brandon Roy. Durant needs his own team and the most shots. The Portland Trail Blazers are Brandon Roy’s team. Durant is a franchise player who most teams should have drafted number 1. Greg Oden fits the Blazer’s better. I just laugh when people write him off as a bust, they will look stupid when Greg is an all-star in two years.

Fair enough.

I’m rooting for Greg, I really am. I just don’t see it. I’m not labeling him a bust, I just don’t think he’ll be this franchise center that everyone thought he’d be.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 5:34 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't think he will be the next Dwight Howard

But, we don’t need a Dwight Howard to compete for titles.

i agree.

With what blazers have right now, they are already going to be major contenders for 5+years to come. That is the same even if Durant was thriving in portland. Picking Greg, who if turns out not better than durant wouldnt be big issue for blazers since they already have a franchise player in Roy plus other very talented and efficient players

"shaq and zach randolph have the same trainer... "

best one liner i ever heard.

Bad News Today Jordan

Jonny Flynn has declared his intent to stay at ’Cuse next year

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 5:37 PM PDT reply actions

We had no shot anyway.

Still sucks though, because that’s one less point guard on the board.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 5:41 PM PDT up reply actions

also on nbadraft.net

jeff teague has fallen way back from a top ten pick to the pick before the sixers… interesting

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 5:46 PM PDT up reply actions

His percentages are incredible.

Not a fan of the assist to turnover ratio though. That’s what I’m looking for — a facilitator.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 5:49 PM PDT up reply actions

and with all these mock drafts

it really doesn’t matter until the pre-draft camps that’s when you really get a good idea where everyone will go

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 5:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Just wrote for the700level...

should be up soon. Predicted a close 95-92 Portland win. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the Sixers pull it out, but I just don’t see it happening.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 5:49 PM PDT reply actions

if anyone finds a link

please post it as a reply to this…. i’m looking for one as i type and i’ll post one if i find it

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 7:05 PM PDT reply actions

Sam should actually be able to get a good number of open looks tonight

because if he’s active, Oden and Przybilla will not be able to keep up.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 7:15 PM PDT up reply actions

That was the kind of play we need more of.

by chillicothe20 on Mar 23, 2009 7:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Huge jumper by Iggy. Shooting solidly tonight.

by chillicothe20 on Mar 23, 2009 7:27 PM PDT reply actions

Same for the Blazers though.

Aren’t they shooting pretty well? We’ll also get to the line, and play better defense.

I’m not worried.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 7:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Well I wanted and Iggy buzzer-beater.

That’s not exactly what I was talking about, but I’ll take it.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 7:37 PM PDT reply actions

Sixers lead after one as they have so often this year. Let’s not fade as the game goes on.

but the blazers arent really hitting the outside shots

i greatly enjoyed that half

tough to comment while watching on the link though gotta keep switchin back and forth between pages i know you all missed me

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 8:10 PM PDT reply actions

Very enjoyable half.

Much more enjoyable if you were here Tanny.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 8:11 PM PDT up reply actions

i'll be much more active in the 2nd half

i hooked up my comp to my tv so now i can have two monitors

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 8:12 PM PDT up reply actions

Wow, that's impressive.

I remember when I put two TV’s in my living room so I could watch TV and play video games at the same time.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 8:20 PM PDT up reply actions

and hate when sammy takes those shots

“if dalembert keeps shooting they’ll miss a lot of shots” — blazers announcers

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions

side note

i did five seconds of hw and now I’m back to the game.

evenly proportioned.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 8:25 PM PDT reply actions

OK, back!

Can anyone summarize for me what I missed in the past quarter and a half? Extra challenge: use EXACTLY 15 words.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 8:36 PM PDT reply actions

Sixers dominance, uneasy feeling at half, blown lead, here we are. Brand new ball game.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 8:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Hmmm... dominance was unexpected.

Interesting. Let’s make this happen…

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

okay let's forget about that quarter

and go back to playing like in the first half

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 8:52 PM PDT reply actions

This is such a frustrating team

if you’re gonna lose, at least get blown out so I could have gone to bed at halftime. Also, WFT is with the refs in this game. I normally try not to complain about officiating, but this is a little ridiculous.

by zfg on Mar 23, 2009 9:07 PM PDT reply actions

where is the iggy hater

why isn’t he talking about him not being good?

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 9:09 PM PDT reply actions

Wow. Rebounding total numbers almost exactly even,

but the blazers have about a billion offensive rebounds. 16 of them!

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 9:23 PM PDT reply actions

Was it always acceptable for announcers to be homers?

I mean, they all are, including ours, but as an opposing fan it gets quite annoying.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 9:23 PM PDT reply actions

JEEEEZ this is intense. Wow.

But you HAVE to score on that possession. Somehow.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 9:28 PM PDT reply actions

ABSOLUTELY CANNOT

give up any offensive rebounds from here on out.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 9:28 PM PDT reply actions

but DANG!

DO NOT give up a dunk there!

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 9:32 PM PDT reply actions

Interesting part two.

My friend (Blazer’s fan), who’s missing the game because of a girl, said he’d text me when Outlaw hits a game-winner in OT.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 9:37 PM PDT reply actions

Almost hit that hook…

by chillicothe20 on Mar 23, 2009 9:42 PM PDT reply actions

Sixers announcers already making excuses

If we don’t manage to hang on and win this game

by doubleh on Mar 23, 2009 9:47 PM PDT reply actions

Great, great win for Philly tonite

still 26 secs left, but what a road win.

this team impresses me.

by oahu dawg on Mar 23, 2009 9:52 PM PDT reply actions

Setting career highs.

Take that Blazer’s Edge!

We’re only 1,600 behind you.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Really?

They really like their team, huh?

by doubleh on Mar 23, 2009 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, honestly

You’re the only game in town (pun intended). This is the only Sixers blog I could find that’s really good and has game threads.

by doubleh on Mar 23, 2009 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Haha, classic.

And we did it without John. Bill Simmons’s Ewing’s theory rings true.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 9:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Big-time player goes out, and the team gets better.

Was about to give that link. That’s an old column, but he references it constantly. Has a lot of good examples.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 10:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Like when Sydney Crosby goes down

And the Pens play better. Forces other players to step up their game. Poor Donyell Marshall gets called out in the article, though…see that?

by doubleh on Mar 23, 2009 10:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Only three 3-pointers tonight for the Sixers. It’s amazing we can win in the NBA doing that. Earlier this year we won a game with only one three made (out of three tries).

by chillicothe20 on Mar 23, 2009 9:55 PM PDT reply actions

amazing

i’m so glad I stayed up for that…now to bed to get up at 5:30

by SexualTyrannosaurus on Mar 23, 2009 9:57 PM PDT reply actions

i understand the pho loss

but no reason we should have lost the gsw game… wow just imagine a 4-1 west coast road trip

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 10:07 PM PDT up reply actions

How did SAmmy only get credited with 2 blocks tonight?

There’s no way that’s accurate. he had way more than that.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 10:08 PM PDT reply actions

By the way, ends up even on the boards.

40-40. But HALF of the Blazers one were offensive. Half! That’s TWENTY offensive rebounds. Sixers had 12 of them.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 10:09 PM PDT reply actions

Only 12 sixers assists

Blake took TWELVE threes. Wow. Only hit 3 of them.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 10:11 PM PDT reply actions

Also, 35-39 FTs for the Sixers. 89.7%. That's also the game.

If they shoot their average there, this is, again, a blowout.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 10:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Thad is my star of the game

10-15 shooting (66.7%)
1-1 from three range
4-4 from the FT line
27 pts, 7 rebs, 1 TO

by chillicothe20 on Mar 23, 2009 10:17 PM PDT reply actions

BTW Jordan

I just noticed you put William Green instead of Willie…. I agree and believe he has to earn a shortened name…. from now on he is William

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 10:22 PM PDT reply actions

I was impressed by your team

but the Iggy call at the end of regulation was a bailout. The rule isn’t that your feet can’t move, it’s that you have to be solid in occupying space. Aldridge was in an area, Iggy drove into him. No call. That call isn’t made in the second quarter, and especially not at the end of the game.

But in the end, you guys did deserve to win. Miller is really good… he is the key to success. Is he coming back next year?

draft dejuan blair

by Cablinasian on Mar 23, 2009 10:29 PM PDT reply actions

I'll agree that it was a bailout, but hey, it happens.

It wasn’t THAT blatant though.

As for Miller, it’s anyone’s guess.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 10:33 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm going to get fired

If the Sixers keep winning games like this on the left coast. No way I’m getting to sleep in the next 4 hours.

Send GT Green packing.

by depressedfan on Mar 23, 2009 10:30 PM PDT reply actions

I still have a ton of Math homework due at midnight.

And an exam to study for. My mentality is “F it”. I can sleep some other time. It’s overrated anyway.

By the way, what a game huh Brian?!

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 10:32 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm so pissed

was planning to go to both home games in the first round, had everything set and a deadline on a project I’m working on got moved to 4/23. I’m going to be working that whole weekend.

Send GT Green packing.

by depressedfan on Mar 23, 2009 10:39 PM PDT up reply actions

That sucks dude.

If the Sixers are still in the playoffs when I get out of school, I’ll be at one of the games. I’ll have to let you know, so we can possibly meet up.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 10:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Will do.

You’ll have to treat me to a cheesesteak. I’ve never had one.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 10:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Does cheeze wiz

actually count as cheese in regards to the whole kosher thing?

Send GT Green packing.

by depressedfan on Mar 23, 2009 11:33 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, there's still enough dairy product in it for it to count as dairy

and thus not allowed to be mixed with meat. The other issue with cheesesteaks is that places like Geno’s and Pat’s don’t stock kosher meat.

by Saul on Mar 24, 2009 8:11 AM PDT up reply actions

I think school ends for me on May 4th.

I wonder if the Sixers will still be alive at that time.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 23, 2009 10:39 PM PDT reply actions

Yup. I start a new quarter, and new classes, in a week.

We take three classes per quarter (and youre not allowed to take less than two or more than four), but the professors don’t eff around. Even summer classes are pretty intense.

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 10:54 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, mine either.

Again, yay quarters. However: the finals will be during that time. So if the Sixers win the East, I’m there!

by Saul on Mar 23, 2009 10:46 PM PDT up reply actions

lol @ sixers winning the east…… i wish though…. someday maybe….. once again i miss 2001

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 23, 2009 10:47 PM PDT up reply actions

I am going to the Sixers season finale in Cleveland on the 15th.

Living in Ohio, I only get to see us in Cleveland. Hopefully, Cleveland will have long clinched the #1, and we will be playing for #5 or something. They may not try to hard.

by chillicothe20 on Mar 23, 2009 10:58 PM PDT reply actions

We play the Cavs like a week before in Philly.

Hopefully, it will be a competitive game. Games against teams like the Cavs are good playoff tune-ups.
