Trade Idea/ Question
Whatup Philly fans. I'm a relatively recent transplant to the area from Louisiana. The Hornets are my team, but I still root for the sixers to do well. Anyways, as you already know, the Hornets are in cap trouble and we need to make some moves. I keep talking this idea over with my law school buddies, and they seem to like ,soI figured I try it here and see if it sticks.
Dalembert and Reggie Evans for Peja Stojackovic. Assuming that we trade Chandler, a terrible but realistic assumption, we will need to find a player that replaces his defensive ability. Sammy would get enough lobs and open looks from CP3 to fulfill the meager offensive output that we need from the 5 spot. We also have a glaring hole at the backup 4 position, and I really believe that Reggie Evans is a championship quality backup (I know, I know all of my Philly buddies laugh in my face when I say that to them). But he would really shore up our bench rebounding and D.
In return you guys get Peja, who is arguably still one of the best 3 point shooters in the game (he's had a rough spot post all star break, but he'll be back at it this spring, trust me). He is exactly the kind of floor spacer that you need, and I think he would be fine with limited minutes (20-25) a game. You could use him whenever you go "big" with Speights and Brand in the middle and Iggy at the 2. This would really free up some space for Iggy's drives, and for post moves for Elton and Speights. I think the main reason that this didnt work out at the start of the season is that you never had the requisite 3 point shooter for that personnel.
Some folks think Speights is a little undersized at the 5, but people forget that Brand is a great weakside defender with shot blocking ability, and I think that he could do a good job of making up for Speights. In this scenario I could also see Elton playing a little bit of 5 as Hollinger has suggested.
Even though he is pillow soft, I still think Peja is an underrated defender because of his length and his intelligence on rotations. He knows exactly where to be. Just don't put him on LeBron.
Anyways, what do you guys think? Thanks and good luck for the season.

Not sure it matches up salary wise – i think the hornets would have to add a little bit of cash to make that deal work.
BTW – Sam Dalembert IS NOT an improvement over Tyson chandler, and you’re welcome to reggie evans – all 3 contracts stink and expire at the same time – sam is slightly more productive these days than peja and even reggie is – i mean the hornets can’t GIVE peja away – so what else do you think the hornets.
Peja is too old to be helpful to this team when it’s going to matter

I agree
Sam isn’t an upgrade over TC, but I still think he’s good at what he does, and honestly, I think he’s a bit underrated. His minutes have been down, he makes some dumb plays, and he doesn’t score, I get it. But, we don’t need that from our 5. Also, while our center might not be as good, we would be a deeper team, which I think would equal things out or even make us better. I think the Hornets could make a move for Crawford with Antonio Daniels expiring contract, and with this move all of a sudden become a deep team for the first time in the CP3 era. Everybody is worried about 2010 which is a great advantage to us, becuase 2011 is what matters for the Hornets when we’ll have over 20 mill (30 if we get Crawford).
As for Peja being fragile, I have no argument for that except that he’d probably be good for 20 to 25 solid minutes vs. starter’s minutes. That would keep the injuries to a minimum. Also, you’ll be running when it matters most anyway. I don’t think Peja will see crunch time minutes. This just gives you the ability to get the most out of Brand, which will be impossible without a reliable 3 point gunner.
Would a first rounder or maybe Julian Wright make it a more square deal?
Also the salaries work because Peja’s contract jumps to 14 and change next year versus 16 and change for Sam and Reggie.
Also, he’s not playing now, but what about MoPete for Reggie. He’d also give you the 3 ball but his contract is way smaller.

Julian wright and a first round pick sounds good – but in 2010 – so i have time to knee cap chris paul and make it a valuable pick

i would love any of the scenarios being discussed. wright would be a quality backup. and peja always kills us anyway.

OK!
All right there buddy, you got yourself a deal!
Sammy and Reggie will be on there way immediately. We would like Peja by the weekend if at all possible.
Thanks for doing business with us!
We look forward to more transactions in the future.
How about Chris Paul for Royal Ivey?

Peja's contract is horrible. I'm a Wolves fan and we'll give you Mike Miller for Dalembert
He’s younger, better, and has an expiring contract next year.
Also, is Dalembert a malcontent, good locker room guy, etc? I was curious about these types of things.

He complains a lot, and has a weird psyche.
I might take Miller for him; although he’s been playing out of his mind lately.

I wouldn’t take JUST Mike Miller for him – but i wouldn’t mind mike miller on the sixers

The trade I came up with actually wasn't a Dalembert/Miller swap...
It was:
Miller, Craig Smith, Bobby Brown (if he accepts his option), and either the Jazz or Celtics 1st round pick
for
Dalembert, Jason Smith, protected future 1st round pick
Do you like that?
Personally, I think it’s a win-win trade. You guys need a sharpshooter and we need a defensive center.

Um – is the protection something to the equivalent of top 25?
Jazz/Celtics 1st round pick has little to no value as both teams are quite good consistently now – so it’s a low first round pick – Jason Smith is one of the few guys on the sixers with range (even if he’s hurt)
And by getting sam – the wolves make their team so much stronger by bringing keivn love off the bench.

Didn't Jason Smith tear his ACL?
Is he any good? I just threw him in there as filler so he could rehab his ACL with Al Jeff and Corey Brewer!
Yea say we gave you the Celtics pick, you would give us a future 1st round pick that would be top 24 protected or whatnot and if it wasn’t collected in say the next 3 years it would just go away.
The wolves have 4 1st round picks this year and that’s a couple picks too many to draft with. Gotta put them to good use.

Utah and Bostons first round picks aren’t ‘valuable’ – they’re low first round picks – not really much more valuable than a second round pick (sometime less since second round picks are cheaper and can be purchased for about 50K)
Jason Smith tore something in the off season – he’ll probably be rehabbed and ready to go by training camp.
As for how good he is – that’s a matter of some debate – i think most people over value him because he is a bit slow laterally (think kyle korver, but 7 feet tall) – but he has some decent range from the perimeter for a big man.
Be nice to hear that while rehabbing he worked on some of his muscle tone definition
