Damn

Apparently I won’t be able to watch tonight’s game. I have a sick dog and a mom’s birthday to deal with. Carry the game-thread without me! And someone do a recap. Please?

I’ll be checking in later tonight.

Peace.

by Jordan Sams on Feb 23, 2009 11:02 AM PST reply actions

i would think about writing a recap

but i probably will switch to heroes at 9 because of the 7:30 start and since the sixers havent been earning my loyalty

I went to the Suns game before the break and bought tickets to this weekends Magic game, which I now wish I hadn’t. Hopefully, I’ll be pleasantly surprised and they will give us some hope if we end up with the 6th seed and not the 5th.

They have done a good job of erasing hope for the 4th seed though

Even if it's a brief recap, or only a first half recap, it's better than nothing.

They way the team is playing right now reminds me of how frustrating they were earlier in the season with Cheeks.

by Jordan Sams on Feb 23, 2009 11:52 AM PST up reply actions

okay

if the game is interesting enough I’ll post my thoughts on everything I watch.

Im a huge stats cruncher anyway

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 2:36 PM PST reply actions

all right...

let’s get a win tonight.

by Saul on Feb 23, 2009 4:41 PM PST reply actions

and

let’s make this a sixers blowout, because I have to leave at 9. I don’t want to miss and exciting ending.

by Saul on Feb 23, 2009 4:42 PM PST up reply actions

trenton hassell and yi jianlian

starting? Not a great lineup there…

by Saul on Feb 23, 2009 4:43 PM PST reply actions

An open 3?

Really? This early?

Great.

by Saul on Feb 23, 2009 4:45 PM PST reply actions

embarrasing Yi, much like the start of the miami game before the break when he blew by udonis

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 4:45 PM PST reply actions

especially by green

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 4:46 PM PST reply actions

willie loves to start off hot against bad teams and drop double digits in the 1st\

hopefully the sixers keep it up this time

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 4:47 PM PST reply actions

Green

with 7 of our first 9 points? Wow. You’re lying if you say you saw that coming.

by Saul on Feb 23, 2009 4:48 PM PST reply actions

i gotta agree with jmorcate

willie can the ability to score….in the first quarter. Shit, he dropped 17 on the pistons in the playoffs in the 1st half

yeah it is the good trend he has sometimes. maybe thats what is enough to keep him in the starting lineup, combined with Iggys struggles at the 2 under Cheeks. Thats also an example of doing it against a good team.

If I was playing against the Sixers, I would fade off Willie to start off the game too and make him prove he can make a couple

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 4:52 PM PST reply actions

I think Dalembert may be taking it on himself to outplay Lopez. He may be making a statement that he deserved not to be traded also. Although he comes out and says that too

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 4:55 PM PST reply actions

we don't owe Sammy shit

he’s been here for how long? 6-7 years at least. And he’s only gotten marginally better despite making a shit load of money. I think we’ve given him plenty of time to develop a CONSISTENT game

by SexualTyrannosaurus on Feb 23, 2009 4:58 PM PST up reply actions

i dont get why they call offensive plays for Dalembert, especially to start quarters or after a timeout

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 5:10 PM PST reply actions

good idea by Ivey there

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 5:12 PM PST reply actions

Let the complaining to the refs begin

although that was a bad call, Harris clearly lowered his shoulders

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 5:14 PM PST reply actions

yes, not ok

its usually the 2nd or 3rd.

series of runs are normal for basketball games tho especially when it comes to this 6ers team because of their style of play and streaky shooting

Well yeah – but what kind of interests do you have – I mean the Harry Potter books are excellent for all ages but if you don’t like the sword sorcery /wizardy thing it’s not your cup of tea – if you like the ‘religious conspiracy thing’ i got some good recommendations that aren’t dan brown – i got straight fiction – science fiction – light fiction – deep fiction – gotta get an idea what you like -

if you like sports and haven’t read em, try moneyball, try the blind side – both by michael lewis – excellent books
the wages of wins is good too but really stats heavy

as a basketball fan who likes to analyze the game – if you haven’t read basketball on paper by dean oliver your cheating yoruself

well obviously i like sports

i’m also a big fan of humor

conspiracies are always fun

mysteries

by Jordan Sams on Feb 23, 2009 6:51 PM PST up reply actions

Try Christopher Moore – very funny guy – bloodsucking fiends – you suck (sequel) – a dirty job – the stupidest angel.

Steven Berry and Raymond Houry write in the dan brown genre – but much better and more original than Brown (all dan brown story lines have the same storylines)

My gf iis a big mystery fan – she loves charles todd.

If you can handle it – tom clancy wrote some AMAZING novels back in the day….dave barry is supposedly funny – if you like a little kid directed humor with an environmentalist bent – check out a book called hoot

If you like humor and mysteries and even some slight conspiracy stuff – try storm front by jim butcher – the first book in the dresden files – if you like it there’s 9 more after them – sure he’s a wizard – but he’s a smart ass wizard with a philip marlowe bent – great series of books – really well written ‘wizard noir’ type stuff in chicago – takes place in the ‘real world’

I don’t read stuff like that – i primarily read fiction except on topics i really really like.

My generation grew up with so much tv and video games as well – but then again my generation grew up during the generational inflection point.

The big problem – and i’m sure they were good – is parents and schoolls don’t make kids read as much – they are really to blame for people not reading as much

What kind of books DONT i read is an easier question

I read all kinds – as a grown up i’m a little bummed that the ‘juvenile’ literature explosion is taking place today – i mean i used to read ALL these kinds of books as a kid but i was a dork :)

Just finished Khoury’s latest – can’t wait for the new dresden book – um christopher moores fool – i’m trying to save money and wait for paperbacks but SO HARD -

By the way – if you like literature and aren’t easily offended – you must read lamb, the gospel according to biff, jesus childhood pal – it’s amazing

yeah, that's a very funny book

i highly recommend Good Omens by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett, sounds like it would be right up your alley

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is an amazing book, especially if you’re a Potter fan, it’s a much more mature version. Same with Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell

by SexualTyrannosaurus on Feb 23, 2009 6:54 PM PST up reply actions

I have read Good Omens 3 or 4 times in my life already
If i could pick only one writer to read the rest of my life it would be neil gaimen – he’s a friggin genius – i’m glad people are seeing coraline if only to read more gaimen.

I have jonathan strange and mr norrell – it’s just SO LONG and i still never read quicksilver or the rest of the baroque cycle.

Lamb is very funny but it’s also one of the most touching books i ever read.

Read the ‘sequel’ (not really a sequel but same world) Anansi Boys – even if you aren’t a comic book fan – check out ‘sandman season of mists’ (lucifer gives up hell and someone has to replace him)

Gaiman is amazing – if you like gaiman – try some Garth Nix – a little younger – but good

I’ve read the hyperion cantos (it’s four books) and i’ve read the footprint (i think) of god – simmons is a stunning writer too – can write all genres pretty well (i think he wrote true evil too didn’t he – cool mystery book)

The only thing i’ll say – if you didn’t like the canterbury tales you might not like hyperion

1. can still pick after the first game of the night

2. pick games for multiple nights

1. I fixed that – check your emails :) I fixed that yesterday – you can now pick games that haven’t started yet

2. Yeah – i know – i build the databases wrong and have to figure out how to fix it so people don’t pick twice for the same game – and write error handling properly :)

Don’t worry. These flukes even out. Hopefully during a season that actually means something.

its not flukes if they become a pattern. so dont even out because its not luck, its whos on each team and ultimately whos clutcher.

Its not like poker where its just percentages

by jmorcate on Feb 23, 2009 8:38 PM PST reply actions

That last shot was a fluke.

But the team made enough bad mistakes to loose.

I mean look at the FT’s.
