Welcome Broad Street Hockey

Philadelphia sports is officially covered by SBNation. Occasional commenter Travis Hughes is now the proud owner of the local Philadelphia Flyers blog.

Broad Street Hockey

I know nothing about hockey. As a matter of fact I've never watched an entire game. When I think about hockey a few words come to mind. "Quack, Quack, Quack!" Yeah, I was a huge Mighty Ducks fan back in the day. Emilio!

Maybe having a Flyers blog to check out every day will convert me into a hockey fan? We'll see. For all of you who already love the orange, black and...white, check out Broad Street Hockey. I'm sure it'll blow your mind.

Congrats Travis! And congrats Philadelphia.

Thanks for the welcome man.

I officially make my offer to make you a Flyer fan. I can’t offer money but you get a new found, uh… love for orange? out of the deal.

Possibly

It’s hard enough to follow 3 teams though. I’ll check out the blog to see what life as a Flyers fan is like.

Pimpin' ain't easy and neither is being a Sixers fan. I manage to do both. Join me at Liberty Ballers, the SBNation 76ers blog. Don't make fun of the name either. It has nothing to do with the New York Liberty of the WNBA.

I never watched a full game of hockey until i watched every flyers game in last years playoffs (where they advanced to the eastern conference finals as a 6 seed). But then my friend bought NHL 08 and i played that a lot, which, combined with the flyers being pretty successful this season, turned me into a pretty big fan.

The flyers will never make the finals and always blame the goalie

I don’t think anybody blamed the goalie last season. I think everybody realized that the Penguins were a stronger team at the time and the Flyers defense was extremely hobbled and they really didn’t have a shot with all the injuries.

Biron rose over almost everybody’s expectations last season. But you are right.. It’s in the psyche of the Flyers fan to blame the goalie because we’ve had so many shitty ones for so long that led us deep one year and never could do it again — Boucher, Cechmanek, Esche, etc.

It’s the psyche of the fans because Bobby clarke had his job way too long and for some reason always publicly blamed the goalies and the fans believed him
