Trade Deadline open thread
Unfortunately I'll be at work and school all day. Post any updates here. I'll be checking all day long. I'm praying that I see a 'Dalembert for Amare' deal.

on the herd this mornign
chris broussard said that portland is talking with the sixers again about andre miller…. will this amount to anything?
Chris Broussard is the only one with that rumor – hell even rumor monger chad ford doesn’t have that

Blocked shots — they look great, but unless you secure the ball afterward, you haven’t helped your team all that much.

it's kind of hard to listen to rumors
from people who work for espn… it seems like they make things up to get viewers/listeners i was just throwing that rumor out there
by Tanner Steidel on Feb 19, 2009 9:08 AM PST up reply actions
It’s not just ESPN – Sam Smith, Peter Vescey, almost all writers just make crap up – no one confirms or denies cause it’s tampering so they don’t have to have reliabilty.
Of course, fans themselves create rumors where there aren’t any – say a guy in an ESPN chat SUGGESTS a trade – some fan with poor reading comprehension starts spreading it as a rumor on blogs or discussion forums he posts on – 24 hours later it IS a rumor that it’s in discussion – not just some wonk suggestion – it’s the viral power (curse) of the internet

Henry Abbot claims he has a source that says the blazers are not going to do anything – which i find ludicrous but indicative of a hole in pritchards ‘game’ as a gm – he’ gets afraid to pull the trigger on something that MIGHT not work out – i mean why not move lafrentz? Jeez
Oh yeah – cavs and suns talking shaq

and the cavs would get to throw out ben wallace
sign me up if i’m a cavs fan
by Tanner Steidel on Feb 19, 2009 9:17 AM PST up reply actions
Well supposedly that’s the sticking point – suns don’t want ben wallace – they’re trying to work on wally – and that’s why a deal could fall apart as well – fi the cavs are adamant about wallace and the suns are adamant about wally – they’ll end up paying shaq 20 mil next year instead of ben wallace less money for more years.
Or find a 3rd team with an expiring deal that could facilitate the deal (lafrentz maybe – about the same money as wally, or andre miller)
But you got 3 hours to work out a 3 team deal

btw – there are rumors that the kings bulls deal isn’t FULLY complete and pieces might change

Chad Ford says
A. The sixers are trying to trade Sam and finding no takers (though why wouldn’t OKC do the same deal they turned down for Chandler – Sam and Chandler really are basically the same player when you account for teammates – pace and all that other stuff)
B. Sixers aren’t doing anything with Andre Miller cause they think they can ‘make noise’ in the playoffs – which to me is nonsense – if you can’t beat the cavs/celtics/magic ALL in a 7 game series – all your noise is sound and fury signifying nothing but slightly more cash. Unless they know for sure they can get miller back at reasonable terms

There’s a rationale you can come up with that justifies not moving Miller.
Look at what happened with baseball free agency (except for the phillies, they were dumb) in terms of contracts that big names got – not as much as they would have hoped – and not as long.
Factor in rumors that the cap is going to decrease and teams with cap room will have less to spend because of that…factor in Millers age and the ‘2010 bonanza’
When you factor all this stuff in, if the sixers are observant, maybe they think – hey – who is going to be able to offer miller more money than we are and is going to be willing to? Sure most teams can offer the MLE – but so can we – and with a higher percentage raise each year. Maybe it’s a calculated risk – but it seems like if you survey the field, and look at baseball, the market for a guy like Miller will be pretty small and the sixers should have a solid chance to re-sign him on ‘their terms’, for like 2-3 years
If that’s the thinking – i’m fine with it

i am fine with that thinking as well. I just don’t want him to turn down a good trade because he believes it will set us back this year, when in the long term i might be better for us.
If that’s the thinking then – then trading miller shouldn’t be done unless of course it’s an upgrade AT the point guard position – I think miller’s still good for the next 2-3 years – i worry about a 5 year deal – so if no move is made with the belief that they can get him to stay on their terms – then i’m ok with it…
Still don’t know why sam didn’t go to OKC – but meh

Of course that’s purely my own speculation that I cam up with today – i have no sense of inside information or source that tells me that is what they are thinking – it’s just a hope i have :)

Yeah, no need to make a trade just to trade.
But I’m sure he’s gotten some really, really good offers for Miller. It sucks that he got hurt. It might not mean much, but it’ll count for something.
by Jordan Sams on Feb 19, 2009 11:22 AM PST up reply actions
It matters depending on the teams interested in trading for him and what they want – but he’s also probably back next game so it’s just a temp thing.
I am not SURE he’s gotten really good offers for him – the only team I think that could make really good offers for miller are the blazers – and they seem paralyzed by indecision.
Hinrich for miller is an ok deal but it’s not exactly great

they traded nothing for pretty much nothing
then again i have a very large bias against larry hughes so my opinion could be skewed
by Tanner Steidel on Feb 19, 2009 11:03 AM PST up reply actions
Not really – you’re right – there’s no long term cap savings (2010) for the knicks here – all the contracts pretty much add up and expire around the same time – it’s not a deal that makes a lot of sense unless there’s eomthing else coming from one or all of the teams – it’s really a pointless exercise i thinkk

I don’t see it happening – they started too late – need a third team if the cavs won’t give up wallay….

According to reports
The Suns want wally
The Cavs want to include ben wallace
Shaq makes a lot of money – if the cavs keep ben wallace they’re over paying him to play almost no minutes – wally expires this year – so it’s a mcuh better financial deal for the cavs if they get the suns to take ben and hold on to wally
On the court I don’t think it makes much of a difference, the sticking point (reportedly) between ben and wally is probably contract length related – thus why a team like portland (or the sixers) could get involved and facilitate to their benefit – but you’ve only got 35 minutes left – it’s a discussion that should have started a couple days ago

another trade for the knicks?
new rumor saying kryptonate and jeffries go to the kings for kenny thomas… damn will the knicks have anyone on contract past 2010? haha they really want lebron/someone else to go along with it

Nate Robinson – first or second most over rated knick (after david lee)

Now all the ‘not happening’ stuff is being confirmed
No on shaq
no on jeff or vince going anywhere
supposedly kings/celtics were talking nocioni – but went nowhere
I wish people would stop talking about james fracking posey – the celtics lost him and THEYRE STILL THE BEST TEAM IN THE EAST – stop over rating a guy who was hot for a couple weeks

Been that way for a while – ESPN spurs viewers and web site traffic and can justify their trade machine – so they don’t idscount even the whisper of a suggestion of a rumor from any source…
I’m not surprised any more that nothing happens – but remember – sometimes ‘big things’ happen unexpectedly – ala webber to philly
plus i hate work :)
