All-Star Saturday Night open thread 02/14/09

Who schedules a big event on Valentine's Day? Last night was kind of boring. When did they start playing defense in the Rookie Challenge? Durant is absolute monster, but Thad got robbed of the MVP. He had 13-4 on 6-7 shooting. M-V-P!

Tonight should be better though. Dwight's encore should be fun. I'm most excited for H-O-R-S-E, which I think is in the early afternoon, so all you guys with sweet Valentine's plans should get to see it.

All-Star Saturday night guys. Here it is.

Also, happy Valentine's day. Here's my valentine, in case you were wondering.

i think the horse competition takes place on inside the nba from 2-4 (pacific)

if that’s the case, that would be a horrible marketing decision. everyone’s going to miss it.

Pimpin' ain't easy and neither is being a Sixers fan. I manage to do both. Join me at Liberty Ballers, the SBNation 76ers blog. Don't make fun of the name either. It has nothing to do with the New York Liberty of the WNBA.

I’ve got my money on Durant in HORSE. He’s too nasty to lose.

i still think it’s stupid that it’s on inside the nba at 3 in the afternoon. they haven’t advertised it at all.

Anyone know what time the dunk contest begins? (its tonight right?)

Iguodala got some props from kenny smith and reggie miller. they said he was robbed against Robinson and that they would like to see him in it next year vs Lebron.

I think if anything could get Iguodala back, it’s the chance to face Lebron, but from what I’ve been reading, the dunk contest is more theater than dunk, and the judging is based on who they want to get to the finals more than anything else – a lot of discussion out there about how the ‘predetermined’ midget vs giant final was achieved even though the dunks themsevles were not as spectacular.

It should be about the dunk NOT the theater…

i definitely agree that the judging in the first round is biased. Half of Nate’s dunks were that same in 2006. In their defense though neither Smith or Fernandez really put pressure on them and yeah it unfortunately has become all about the theatrics.

Nooooo, not Fake Nate

He was like one of those midget trampoline team guys. His actual dunk was good, but catapulting off oher players is not really dunking.

Of course Howards “dunk” last year wasn’t a real dunk either.

They should have just given this years to Iguodala, but maybe I’m biased?

+1. and i think howard made up for last years “dunk” with that 12 ft dunk tonight. Would have been cool if they let him see how high he could go.

Andre Iguodala could probably dunk on a 12 footer – howard is tall – but iguodala can get up…
