Nuggets @ Iversons game thread 12/07/09
Denver Nuggets at Philadelphia 76ers, Dec 7, 2009 4:00 PM PST
Allen Iverson game thread.
20 hours till tip-off.
199 days till John Wall.
Go 76ers.
Winning team's Nuggets blog: Denver Stiffs
Update [6:24]: According to Kate Fagan, the Sixers starting lineup will be Iverson, Iguodala, Thaddeus, Brand and Dalembert. Iverson's return + a starting lineup without Billy Green gives the Sixers a small chance to pull off the upset. It should be exciting.

Hello Everyone!
I’m a regular poster at turfshowtimes and this is my first post here. I’ve been a sixer fan since the Dr. J era… GO SIXERS and GO ALLEN. I hope he ends his carreer with us and retires on a positive note.
"The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall." - Vince Lombardi
Can't wait for this game.
Even though I know it will disappoint.
My predictions – Iverson scores 11, Sixers lose by 15.
Well as of yesterday the only tickets available were SRO tickets so comcast got what the wanted, for at least one game
And just to rub it in.
HOW ’BOUT THEM COWGIRLS?

In a shock of shocks, Eddie Jordan might start Iverson and Iguodala in the same back court tonight

Also said he envisions iverson starting for remainder of season alongside lou. Which of course means he plans bringing brand off the bench. Ladies and gentlemen, i give you eddie jordan.

what an idiot
how does the lineup of
Iverson, Iggy, Thad, Brand, and Sammy D NOT makes sense to him?
Did they change the meaning of apropos and no one told me?

Fitting
that he would win the game on his return
He took us to the NBA Finals once…

Kate Fagan everyone
Not sure we’d be talking about the defense if the Sixers were scoring more point
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 12:26 PM PST reply actions
That… might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
by zfg on Dec 7, 2009 1:08 PM PST up reply actions
Well, at some level....
all the defense has to do is hold the opposition to less points than the Sixers score…. so if, say, the Suns of a few years ago were giving up 107 per game, that was fine because they were scoring 110…
But of course, these Sixers are not putting up 110 per game.
Please don’t use points per game to determine ‘quality’ defense, it’ like using counting stats to determine if the sixers were good on the dfensive glass
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 3:42 PM PST up reply actions
I know. That was an attempt at sarcasm
that didn’t come through.
You can win by out-executing another team, but it is always some combination of offense and defense. The Sixers are good at blocking shots and forcing turnovers. They need to add solid rebounding and interior defense to that.
Iverson can help with the scoring, but Denver scores a lot and outscores their opponents by over 8 pts. What can Thad do against Carmello and what can Brand do against Nene? Is Iverson going to matchup with Billups or Iguodala?
If the Sixers play to their potential they should be able to score over 110. They never seem to play up to that. Hopefully, Iverson will be able to free them up a little bit, with his scoring threat, he can take some of the pressure off of Iguodala and get Brand alone and open in the post.
Iverson, Iguodala, Green, Young, and Brand can all score around 20 pts. They should be able to get 10 more from Smith, Carney and Kapono.
They have to win on the boards and limit Denver to only one shot per possession. If they can do that, they can win. They should be competitive, if they keep two bigs in the game at all times. Dalembert could have a very good game against Denver’s bigs.
there is no way...
that iverson, iggy, AND green will get 20 pts if theyre playing the guard spots. Just not enough shots to go around.
There are 96 min. of time at the two guard spots. That’s 32 min, for each of them, so there are plenty of shots. There won’t be a problem with sharing the ball until Speights and Williams come back.
The nice thing about Iverson coming back is that Green goes back to the bench. Willie can give some scoring punch to that 2nd group. We may see Green and Iverson at times as well. The less we see of Royal Ivey the better.
Why do you keep torturing us?
Are yo ua sadist?

I think if people analyze ‘good and bad’ defense or offense via PPG it just shows that they don’t know how to look deeper and look at who is most EFFICIENT

For those of you who think the Nuggets skewed my post:
06-07 Sixers w/ Iverson: .33 win percentage.
06-07 Sixers w/o Iverson: .44 win percentage.
06-07 Nuggets w/ Iverson: .49 win percentage.
06-07 Nuggets w/o Iverson: .59 win percentage.
07-08 Nuggets: .58 win percentage (Iverson played every game)
08-09 Nuggets w/ Iverson: .33 win percentage.
08-09 Nuggets w/o Iverson: .66 win percentage.
08-09 Pistons w/ Iverson: .43 win percentage.
08-09 Pistons w/o Iverson: .48 win percentage.
09-10 Grizzlies w/ Iverson: .00 win percentage.

i say they have about an 8 point advantage at halftime but the sixers make it interesting in the third. Nuggets pull away during the fourth though
Sixers win because of extra Iverson-based excitement/motivation.

Sixers offense looking very smooth considering AI has practiced with the team twice. Denver isn’t such a strong rebounding team that it killed us, but I can’t stand small ball. WHY DOESN’T HE PLAY JASON SMITH?
I don’t think the offense looks smooth at all. Everyone seems unsure of themselves. Production has come from Iguodala step backs and a few dribble drives by him and Willie. Everything else is hesitant and stagnated.

I don’t know if it is so much Iverson is directly inspiring them. Rather I think its that they have no pressure on them , as the spotlights on Iverson. They are playing a little more loose. Plus, when you have an actual crowd cheering for you, I think you pick up your game a little.

The comments over at the700level are hilarious.
Don’t care if Iverson only has like 6 or 8 points or whatever he has. The difference is already visible. If it werent for the extra energy that his return has brought, and the attention that even an ‘out of shape’ Iverson causes other players to pay to him is allowing other guys to make plays. If Iverson’s return doesnt happen no way this team has any kind of energy to play this game, they would probably be down by 10 at this point, instead of actually having a lead.
iguodala looks good. allen looks rusty. im a little concerned about the sixers inablity to score from several inches away from the basket in the first quarter.
In that last one, the guy is surprised that they have that problem. It’s painfully obvious that none of these people have seen a second of the Sixers in three years.
Took me 12 minutes to get home, sixers were up 5 in the third when i left…

Iverson really is a non-factor. We’re just a terrible defensive team with awful coaching and no cohesive offense.
Was a joke :)
He’s older, he’s slower, & he’s just not that good anymore…
so the ‘iverson bump’ will last this one game attendance wise?
He’s supposed to take himself out…jordan gae him the right

The hot version of willie green that we've had lately
has been at least as effective.
You want iverson and green on the floor @ the same time – do the sixers get two balls on offense?

What are the chances that Eddie Jordan gets fired after this season..?!
Cuz our defensive problems are not getting any better even though HE KNOWS our defense is one of our main problems!!!

Well most of us Sane people would! But thats most likely not gonna happen hahaha

Iverson buys him to the asb next season is my guess

The sixers blow the lead in the 4th quarter & he gets a standing O? any fan who boos the loss but cheers Iverson makes me sick

Heheh
Look at all those empty seats. They came for the rush around Iverson, then left before any actual basketball was played.
So now let’s watch michael oher on the packers DL

The sixers are terrible and the lottery is a crap shoot…this is a top 5 (lottery) team even with Iverson

i would rather get someone that can play SF or SG and move igoudala around
eff you we winning anyway
yea ive seen him play he plays for kentuckyyy
i would rather get like Ed Davis from UNC with like the 15th draft pick
eff you we winning anyway
he can rebound and has a good wingspan and can block and can score better than sammy
eff you we winning anyway
You get the #1 pick you take the best player, messing around is how you end up with Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 6:27 PM PST up reply actions
the fact that you would pass on john wall…well..
by Tanner Steidel on Dec 7, 2009 6:27 PM PST up reply actions
People who think the #1 pick should be based on need confuse me

One thing they do is draft well…if they pass on him i trust dileo
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 6:26 PM PST up reply actions
yea he drafted speights and young which were not even on the boards they were suprise picks
eff you we winning anyway
I dont mean to toot my own horn (lies) but I had us taking both Speights and Young. I’m also psychic so its cool
by Michael Levin on Dec 7, 2009 6:30 PM PST up reply actions
I picked Speight to the sixers in January before most people thought he’d even come out if you need to be technicl :)

i picked iverson back in ’96… boom beat that

You sure he doesn’t play baseball (yes, i know, that’s racist)
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 6:45 PM PST up reply actions
I figured he played for UNLV
how good can he be if he isn’t playing his freshman year when the best prospects only last one year (that’s a sort of serious question)
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 6:48 PM PST up reply actions
and Blake Griffin to the Clippers… i don’t know how i do it – i’ll be giving autographs later

Believe it or not, there was actually a good basketball team on the floor tonight
One that has a lot of good players, plays well as a team, does all the big things well, and is a lot of fun to watch. They played well tonight toward the of the game.
But of course no one in the stadium knows or cares enough about actual basketball to know or appreciate that,
George Karls dog bite scar scares me too much to like the nuggets
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 6:26 PM PST up reply actions
Not saying I like them.
Just noting that they’re good. And I do like Nene, a big, physical, defensive, rebounding center who, unlike Sam, plays within himself.
cancers a whole lot worse…his nickname is sack
by jemagee on Dec 7, 2009 6:29 PM PST up reply actions
Testicular I thihnk
On January 11, 2008, Nenê released a statement saying that he was taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team to take care of a personal medical issue.6 On January 14, he had a testicular tumor removed at a Denver hospital.7 He returned to action on March 27, 2008, in a 118-105 Nuggets home win over the Dallas Mavericks.8 Nenê entered the game with 1:17 left in the fourth quarter to a standing ovation.8
During the 2008-09 season, Nenê posted some of his strongest numbers in his career, taking the starting role of center for the Denver Nuggets.

there it is…. good guy to root for, especially if he’s tearin it up for one of my fantasy teams

This is a little sad.
Extended discussions about high draft prospects just 17 games into the season?
I guess its just a shame I don't give a flying flip about college sports
or the people who play them. I just wait until they’re actual pros to see if they can play. It just doesnt interest me as a conversation topic.
i don’t watch that much – but read draft express.com….it’s helpful…there’s some stuff you can read out there.
Or i can suggest some readin :)
