Could the Sixers possibly trade Elton For TMac?
Apparently the Rockets are looking to unload Tracy McGrady and would not mind taking on a long term deal in return. Do you think the Sixers would consider trading Elton for one year of McGrady since it's obvious Elton has no place in this team's future? I don't know the exact salary numbers, but I believe both players are making around 20 mil per year. Elton's play has been decent lately and I'm sure the Rockets would like to add a low post presence in the absence of Yao, plus he would be a nice compliment to Yao at PF when he returns. The Sixers would have more salary cap flexibility if they traded for TMac, plus Speights would probably recieve more playing time which he deserves since he has been outplaying elton to this point. I wonder if this trade is possible

Epic Fail
Elton Brands 2009/10 Salary – 14.9 million
Tracy McGrady 2009/10 Salary – 23 million
That’s all that matters, not per year – this year and this year only.
I’d like to have a rule that all trade suggestion at least go through the motions of setting up a ‘legitimate acceptable’ trade in terms of the CBA and salary cap before polluting this board.
No – the sixers should not give Elton Brand away for a broken down useless player whose only value is an expiring contract only to get about 10 million dollars under the cap next year.
It’s silly to consider trading a good player just because an idiot coach doesn’t know what to do with him

Big deal, you throw in Kapono and there you go.

Yes, you should. The point isnt to free yourself up next year, its to free yourself up past next year. By the time this team is ready to actually make it past the second round of the playoffs, Elton will essentially be the same broken down useless player that Tmac is today. As someone on the Kings blog pointed out last night, undersized athletic players do not have a long shelf life. This is because once the athletisim goes, theyre done, and were already starting to see that with Elton. So if you can just alleviate yourself of a ‘Gilbert Arenas light’ contract before it really shows its teeth, you do that in a heartbeat. The NBA (or any salary capped league for that matter) is all about getting value for your money, something Elton will clearly not be giving you in 3 years.
By trading Elton for Tmac, we basically get ourselves a second chance. Elton was/is a good player, but the signing was all wrong. He was too old for the current team and the money and years just made the deal worse. If we can get ourselves a do over with this signing, why not take it? We would likely be able to sign someone that is a lot closer in age to the core of the team (maybe Kaman in 2012).

Kapono and Brand for McGrady don’t work neither – but thanks for playing.
As for the rest of it – you premise is flawed and you ignore NUMEROUS reports about what Houston is willing and unwilling to take back.
So per usual on most trade suggestions, reality is ignored and the sixers anally violate the other team in the trade

Ummm, ESPN’s trade generator says it works so your welcome for playing.
And were talking about a hypathetical situation in which you said the Sixers should not make this trade, but we clearly should make this trade. It doesn’t matter wether or not the Rockets would actually make the trade. You said the trade was a bad idea from the Sixers standpoint and you are wrong.

Oh – I see – since you think it’s a good idea it’s something they should clearly do
Who cares if you’re wrong about Elton Brand right?

So are you saying that you think Elton’s contract is good? And that we shouldn’t be trying to rid ourselves of it?

I guess you’re right. Maybe the sixers can make it work this year with Elton, AI and the bunch, but I doubt it. Obviously I was extremely excited when AI came back, but now I just don’t see the Sixers going anywhere with the current roster, I’d rather they try to unload Brand, draft a nice lotto pick and perhaps have some money to sign a free agent. But I guess at this point they screwed themselves signing Brand in the first place so they may as well try to contend while they still have him, as unlikely as that may be.
He's back
I wasn’t excited with Iverson coming back
McGrady doesn’t make them better
they weren’t going anywhere this year
Brand isn’t done

Iverson actually helps the team. You can see it when he’s on the floor. For the value they’re getting signing him was a steal.
McGrady costs to much to try to experiment with him. As a 2 guard he has the size to pair up with our small points, but he’s not that great a defender and we don’t need another scorer.
The Sixers may still get somewhere this season with Brand. It has taken him about 20 games to get into his normal game shape and he is back to being a 20 and 10 guy. This team is too talented to not be able to win consistently. It has taken time because of injuries and a dumb coach. As the player become familiar with each other and their plays and work on offense to execute, they will start winning. Don’t break up this team until you see what it can really do. They beat Boston in their own building in a close game. That at least implies potential.
I suppose
People with a clue already are pretty certain that T-mac won’t be on the sixers

i would actually like to see t-mac in a sixers uniform.
i was gonna post this but you beat me to it haha
eff you we winning anyway
A.I. IS BACKKKKKKK
T-Mac for Andre Iguodala?
The latest rumor says that the Rockets want no part of Elton Brand and if they trade T-mac they want AI 2.0 in return. That seems weird especially with Shane Battier and Trevor Ariza on the roster. The Rockets also said they would want more youth with Iguodala. Interesting.
http://dimemag.com/2010/01/nba-trade-rumor-tracy-mcgrady-for-andre-iguodala-and-youth/
The Houston Rockets have made it known they will look to trade forward Tracy McGrady, whose expiring contract makes him desirable. Rumors have circulated about whether the Sixers could manage to put together a trade package with Houston.
According to a source close to the situation, “nothing is happening” between the two teams, although the Sixers have contacted Houston about center Samuel Dalembert.
As sad as it is, I’m basically pro anything that sheds years and money. Brand I’d like to get something back in return, Dalembert I’d take nothing and like it. Iguodala I don’t want to trade but if Stefanski has a better idea of a different direction this team could go in the future, I suppose ridding ourselves of another big contract to start over wouldn’t be awful. All I want is a plan in place to win a championship. And right now, despite Ed’s recent comments, I don’t see a plan.

Rockets Fan Here...
Just to comment on this possible trade…
The Rockets have clearly saisd they WILL not trade T-Mac to Philly unless Iggy is part of the trade. So no way Elton or Dalembert get traded for T-Mac.
Rockets have said they will not trade T-Mac just to get rid of him. If nothing good comes along Rockets will keep his expiring contract for 2010.
Yeah, I think we all kinda figured that
But we can dream right?

Not really...Iggy has a huge contract and the Rockets know that...
With the 23 million coming off the books in 2010 the Rockets go after Bosh type player (who being a Texan) has said he wants to play for a team in Texas & only Rockets would have the money to pay him. So you see, the Rockets aren’t delusional, they simply know the “value” of the 23 million expiring contract.
If the rockets want bosh then they probably shouldn’t trade for Iguodala either.
The Rockets aren’t going to get anything for McGrady based on their criteria…they’ll just buy him out after the Feb deadline
by jemagee on Jan 1, 2010 11:14 AM PST up reply actions
I don’t think we’d trade our best player, at age 25, for an expiring contract. I’d riddle you with insults, but at this point I’m hesitant to see what other asinine things Stefanski could do.

No what the Rockets are saying is that they want to ...
secure at least one “all star” type…If thats Iggy or Bosh time will tell. Obviously the Rockets will not land both, but trust me they’ll land something of that type.
Do you really think the Rockets are that stupid to buyout T-Mac. They’ve already said no matter what T-Mac does not get bought out. Either they trade him for a “all-star” type player now or wait out his contract for 2010 & spend that cash then.
Just for your infor these are the type of players that have been mentioned in possible T-Mac trade talks: Iggy, Caron Butler, Anthony Randolph, Kevin Martin even Bosh has been mentioned.
Again no way Rockets simply “dump” T-Mac, either value is returned now or they get that value is free agency in 2010. Unlike most teams Rockets are playing exceptionally well with only 40% of salary cap (Yao & T-Mac injured) and are one of the few teams willing to spend more money now.
Wish you guys luck though for the future…
Iggy is the best offer to me, since we obviously arent getting D-wade,
he’s a 2 which we need cause Arizas a 3 playing 2 & if we were to go after a big wheres that leave our tandem of Scolandry?? One of them would be traded & Id rather not see that happen, best PF tandem in the league right now. If we can get Iggy with say at least Speights of course Kapono thrown in for the $ to match then Id be fine with that trade.

Hey take Jrue and Thad while you’re at it. And a few future first round picks just for fun. They’re all yours.
by Michael Levin on Jan 1, 2010 4:18 PM PST up reply actions
Why would the Rockets be interested in Wade – they don’t need a one dimensional injury prone ball hog do they?
The Rockets are probably targeting Bosh in free agency…if he doesn’t get traded first…they have a real shot at Bosh and it makes more sense with the roster they already have.
Someone is going to give Wade A LOT of money and I think it’ll be a waste
by jemagee on Jan 1, 2010 5:17 PM PST up reply actions
well i think Wade took his tean farther than Bosh did & both have sorry sub-par surrounding players.
do you think the Rockets NEED Bosh? I’ll admit I’d like to see Bosh in a Rockets uni but a 2 guard is NEEDED. Which forward are you willing to let go of Landry or Scola?

I think Wade hasn’t done much except for one season with Shaq – I think Bosh has a crappy ass roster this year and [plays in anonymity…plus wade gets hurt
by jemagee on Jan 1, 2010 5:54 PM PST up reply actions
Are you nuts? Leave D-Wade out of this. If you thought Wade did well his one season with Shaq, imagine pairing him with Yao.
He's back
You mean the Yao who can’t make it through an entire season healthy? He and Wade would go well together yes
by jemagee on Jan 2, 2010 8:14 PM PST up reply actions
Agreed he hasnt done much
but Im thinking with a better supporting cast he could excel! Thats just my opinion man thats the great thing about these sites speculation & opinions. Its good to see what other fans think of other teams players.
