Draft Board #3 Re-vote
With memories of the 2000 presidential election, the United States of Liberty Ballers will have a re-vote for number three on the draft board. Ed Davis, Willie Warren, Evan Turner, and Devin Ebanks all had 7 votes. So they, along with Pat Patterson (3) are eliminated. Donatas Motiejunas, Wesley Johnson, Cole Adrich, and Al-Farouq Aminu were on the next tier. So among those 4, pick your next man for the LB board.
Just a reminder, so far we've got:
1. John Wall (who?)
2. Derrick Favors

If you’ve got fox sports – you’ll be able to see favors play this early evening unless you prefer the eagles game

i know we already have a consensus for john wall as the first pick, but i am still not sure if he would be as big a star as favors. he is supposed to be some freaky mold of dwight and amare. idk: i just prefer
speights
favors
thad
iguodala
holiday
with williams and brand as “supersubs”
over
speights
brand
thad
iguodala
wall
with holiday and williams as subs
the latter option would definitely be the most dangerous three point guard rotation in the league, but i would rather have two good point guards and a very solid big man rotation.
just a thought.
Maybe just bad match ups, I mean I BELIEVE they are lottery talents, but Ed Davis and Derrick Favors, very unimpressive this weekend – Favors except for a few moments was pretty unremarkable against Florida State tonight (FSU comes in and wins on cremmins court in OT)
FSU has an usually large amount of big men and is very physical and agressive defensively, and GT seemed lost offensively a lot of the game…only problem is this OT game delayed changing to the Wake NC State Game.
So far this weekend the only player in the top 5 who isn’t wall that has impressed me was aldrich

i did not get to watch this weekend
what did you think of favors defense and rebounding wise? i know he is supposed to be a monster shot blocker, but I don’t know much about his man to man d.
also, i have been reading up on aldrich, and some scouting reports say that he can really only thrive offensively in a KU-style system (the reports say this after he apparently was “invisible” in a skills camp showcase earlier this year).
Yeah, DX said he was invisible at camps too (Aldrich)
Aldrich looked VERY GOOD defensively, he knew what he was doing, he stayed with his man, he didn’t over switch (and his man played on the perimeter a lot) but additionally – moment a shot goes up – he’s boxing out – he’s looking for the rebound.
Offensively, he could use some work, he’s a bit ‘lumbering’ but you can see that the IQ is there, he made some moves that with coaching could get better, and made a few excellent passes out of the low post that I’m always looking for from a big man…one huge thing I liked about what i saw in this one game with aldrich is that he played within himself – he knows what he can and can’t do and really doesn’t try and force it….(PS he was co big 12 defensive player of the year last year, I think with some guy from oklahoma who might have gone #1 in the draft)
Favors did have some nice blocked shots yes, but like I said, i think FSU is a bad match up for him, he was really unremarkable in the game last night, I don’t think the Tech offense calls for him much but he didn’t have a lot of impact in the overall game, a few highlight dunks yes but nothing that ttells me he’s a top 5 pick (not that i’m disputing that he is, this is the first time i saw him play, just he didn’t look like a top 5 pick last night)…he didn’t look aggressive to me, he didn’t seem to be calling for the ball to want to take over, but again that could be the tech offense.
Tech really shouldn’t have lost to FSU at home

Remember, I openly admit I don’t know as much about basketball as others, I’m just saying impressions i got – i did not watch the Wake NC State game much, but the top 5 talent from Wake did have foul issues

Figures if I notice someone – others will as well
Were NBA scouts concerned about the way Ed Davis got manhandled on the boards by Dexter Pittman.
Chad Ford (1:57 PM)
Not really. Pittman has 70 pounds on Davis and it wasn’t like Davis was terrible in that game (20 points, 10 boards). I think what it did do was raise Pittman’s draft stock in the minds of a number of NBA decision makers. I think he’s now firmly planted as a legit first round prospect — might even go lottery if he keeps playing like he did against North Carolina. NBA GMs love big men and there is no one bigger than Pittman.

If Dex keeps slimming down and adding muscle, I wouldn’t mind taking him around 7-10. Team him with Speights to play his mostly outside game and that’s a decent frontcourt. If we somehow win more ballgames and lose lottery balls, he’s somebody I’d look at.

In the Tex/UNC game I just saw a high energy guy off the bench who really got after it (like reggie evans I guess – but he has some basketball skill, evans odesn’t) – who could be a strong bench player in the way people think jason smith is but really isn’t…then i heard the weight loss story and really admired the determination and work he put in to get to that (yeah things like that matter to me when DRAFTING a player, who they are, their dedication and such, i think is ignored too much)…
When I checked – DX had him projects as a top 10, second round pick, if he projects into the first round I have a feeling the sixers will miss him

yea right now nbadraft.net has him 17 in first round – but nbadraft.net changes their projections every 2 seconds
by Tanner Steidel on Dec 22, 2009 1:41 PM PST up reply actions
Yes they do which is why i NEVER read them – their projections are all about traffic.
I trust the DX projections more than anywhere else (and i don’t have to pay for them chad ford your useless tool), even though they admit now that having a mock draft after the top couple is kind of silly.
Last year I was in on speights around january – so dex will probably end up somewhere else :)
