Usually they coincide, so I’m at free basketball until COX sends an ‘update’ to boxes (no big surprise, usually when they make a mistake I tell them) – so until my box resets I get league pass, that’s nice…something to listen to while i study MySQL, learn more about retrosheet and BDB and try to find ‘free’ basketball data :)

which is exactly what his chapter on “the secret” is about. he convinced me that you can never fully evaluate a basketball player or team based on statistics.
and I never said you could – i’ve NEVER said you could – the problem is that everyone (like in politics) seems to be on extremes. IN a game like basketall you can’t see everything that happens at once unlee you have 10 cameras, one for each player on the court.
Guys like simmons dismiss statistics because he thinks the people who use statistics don’t watch the games, plus they usually don’t understand the analysis so insult it and call those who cam up with it geeks.
There’s a REASON some of the bigger names at APBR vanish because they get jobs with NBA teams…there’s a reason people listen to what Daryl Morey has to say…it’s a COMBINATION of both, but the evolution of statistical analysis helps better explain and understand WHAT you see – but you still have to watch

That’s a flaw – that’s a flaw many people who ‘watch the games’ fail at – statistics have no bias (unless designed that way) perception has bias – plus you can’t see everything you want to see….you can’t tell HOW the guy got opened if you weren’t following him the whole time off the ball

well battier’s the best example. even hollinger’s stats had him as one of the worst players in the league last year, and we know that’s not the case.
I don’t like Hollingers Per number, it’s too offensively oriented and the reaston battier is an asset is more defensive…

he didn’t put up big numbers, but he made plays to help his team, like grabbing loose balls and such. if he does that in summer league, odds are he always will.
effort plays are nice, but the calibre of play in summer league REALLY is much lower, plus a lot less people MAKING those effort plays…i’m not worried about him, i’m worried about gordon going for like 40

That’s a pretty clear indication that
A. the sixers shopped same to GSW (which isn’t surprising cause they shopped him to everyone i bet)
B. GSW had no interest (cause no one has interest in Sam)
C. The sixers had no interest in SJAX at the time
D. It was last season – not this year.
Stephen Jackson signed an extension and THEN whined about wanting to be traded, is signed through 34 and just an utter tool.

No, he looks worse than last year
I need to see some basic rebounding and be able to fish at least 1/2 of his deep inside touches. That’s not about feel its about physically being unable to play NBA basketball anymore.
i realize I’m not being reasonable, but the guy looks completely done. And if he can’t even grab rebounds there is no reason for him to be on the floor (well I guess there are 80M reasons.)

but I agree. Actually been trying to defend him up till now but about ready to give up. Very disappointing. Very.
I’m still willing to give him a little benefit of the doubt of it being early.
However, tomorrow in Phoenix, if Speights doesn’t start / get the majority of minutes at the 5 spot, he loses some.
PS – where are all the folk who told me Speights couldn’t play center?
