Monta Ellis
Ok, so Stephen Jackson was never coming to the sixers and I never wanted him on the team, however, the Warriors implosion and Titanic sinking MAY lead to a more attractive (to me) player being made available for trade. So let's discuss it because there's only so much to discuss with the current roster.
Monta Ellis isn't Stephen Jackson, he's a 2 guard, he's a 2 guard who can score efficiently (at least if you don't count 3's) and fits on this roster in my opinion. He also wouldn't be cheap...however, he does have 4 years left on his deal so financial savings would be a consideration in making this deal on the Warriors side.
Here's my suggestion without looking at any salary implications or cap matching or whatever.
The sixers trade Sam Dalembert and Thaddeus Young to the Warriors for Monta Ellis.
I understand this will be met with disdain by many, but that's ok, Young may develop into a great player, might, but he's off to a slow start, and Iguodala is in his prime now, Ellis is in his prime now...I like the idea of Ellis Iguodala in the near future a lot more than Young Igudoala the way things are going.
Feel free to demolish

1) would the contracts work in that trade? (I didnt check, but I highly doubt it)
2) the Warriors arent going to want Sammy. Take him out and MAYBE you have a deal.
3) the Warriors have Wright, whos basically a (crappier) right handed version of Thad
So, yeah, not gonna happen, although, I do like the idea of trading either Iggy or Thad for something we need. I just dont see it working with both of them here.

No one wants sam – but if they want salary relief – sam expires next year and monta is much longer – and thaddeus young is more accomplished then Wright already…so take writght back.

The sixers have been trying to trade sam since FEBRUARY and no one wants him

GSW has 1.3 million in trade exceptions but I don’t think you can combine them nor do i think that they can be added…i don’t care about devean george, he just makes the deal work

ESPN trade machine ‘save link’ doesn’t actually work (shocking as ESPN constantly ‘upgrades’ their site to non functionality)
Trade is Sam/Thad for Monta/Devean George – trade kicker not accounted for I don’t think

See, this is why I’m adverse to even suggesting trades that are thoguht out and make a little sense, then people propose trades that make NO SENSE have no chance of happening and are the eqvuilaent of a gang rape

And yeah, the eagles COULD find a guy who can convert 1 yard from the goal line without throwing, but it’s just as likely as your unbalanced unfair mentioned trade

also..
i came up with the exact same trade proposal as soon as I saw the story on Dimemag.com about Ellis. I’d make that move in a second, Iggy could go back to his natural position and Monta ran the point alittle in the past so we would kinda have to 1/2 PG’s in Lou and Monta. Not exactly championship talk. But it’d be a step in the right direction. I’m willing to give up Thad as much as I still love him, because Monta is a lot more proven. Plus to get something of that value that also includes getting rid of someone like Sam is a double whammy, not only are you adding Monta’s talent, you get to subtract the plague that is Samuel Dalembert.

Andre Iguodala is a 2 guard – and he’s quite good at it
by jemagee on Nov 19, 2009 5:58 PM PST up reply actions
now he's a 2 guard..
but he played 3 for the first 3 years of his career and was quite good at that.. plus that would b the best 5 to have out there on the court. If you keep Andre at the 2 and start Monta at the 1, then Rodney Carney is your SF. I’d rather have Lou/Monta/Andre then Monta/Andre/Rodney. Either way, if this trade is plausible the Sixers need to push to get it done.
by joe_digiacomo on Nov 20, 2009 3:17 PM PST up reply actions
You don’t start monta at the 1 that’s silly, he’s no more a point guard than Iverson is
My point is that I"m tired of people saying Iguodalas ‘natural’ position is the 3- he excels at both positions…he doesn’t get enough credit for it.

WHATT???
I don’t even know what to say to that. I’ve deleted my rebuttal and retyped it about 6 different times and I’m still having trouble processing that anyone could possibly even think that trade proposal is the least bit logical. You don’t in your right mind think it’s a possibility, right? It was a “wouldn’t it be nice” joke. right? …. right?

warriors fan here.....
you have to be kidding me with these offers. Monta is our best player. Randolph is our best prospect and widely regarded as a future star around the league….
Monta for Iggy…. would you consider it? Monta has a better contract and has proven to be more efficient scorer. 2) when Jrue Holiday comes around he’s ideal backcourt partner to undersized monta
No…because there’s more to basketball than scoring, and Iguodala does ALL those things better than Ellis, doesn’t get hurt and doesn’t whine like Ellis is doing…he may be the warriors ‘best’ player but he can’t play with curry and he’s about to demand a trade…which diminishes his value greatly (plus the warriors are run by a troika that makes the 3 stooges look like friggin geniuses). I did not included randolph in the deal, I included deven george and joked about randolph since Don Nelson hates him.
When Jrue Holiday comes around – the sixers will have one of the best defensive back courts in the game with Jrue and Iguodala – or they have monta and Jrue and Iguodala at the 2.
The warriors aren’t going anywhere any time soon and they’ll be wasting Monta’s prime years whereas Young fits into the roster of guys with lots of potential (and nothing else) that Nelson is trying to fix. They save money cause Sam expires next year and Monta doesn’t.
It’s like the raiders, the warriors make bad deals for good players cause they want to leave so that decreases their value

well Iagree iggy is > Monta
I was just feeling it out.
Still monta at full strength has ability to be an elite offensive player in this league. Remember he’s in his first month back after a year long layoff. Iggy for as great as he is, will never be that. As it stands you are a great defensive team, so perhaps Monta can be like Iverson was in the early part of the decade.
Still T.Young doesn’t interest me, and dalembert? NO. Point is this team is spiraling, and if they can’t get something of value for Monta, they will keep him. He is under contract and ocnsider ‘moped-gate’ hasnt really earned the right to demand squat
He shots the 3 terribly, like god awful, doesn’t get enough assists or rebounds – he’s a scorer – but that’s ALL he is…don’t compare hinm to Igduoala who is one of the most complete players in all of the NBA
by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 2:53 PM PST up reply actions
wrong
He may not shoot the 3 well, (comparable to iggy) he doesn’t take 3’s eithers…. he actually is an incredibly good rebounder for a guy his size. 5 rpg since he’s been a starter. Can’t argue with the assists, all i can say is he’s improving in that regard.
2 years ago at SG he averaged 20ppg, 5rpg, 4apg, 1.8steals while shooting 53%!
this year so far, carrying the offense, 20ppg, 5.1 rpg, 5 apg, 1.6 steals shooting 46%
The thing w. monta is he's lightening to the rim
no on can stop him. His decision making is getting better. He has matured a bit into a leader. The problems as usual stem from management and don nelson’ bi polarity with players. He just turned 24, and is NBA proven and should continue to grow IN THE RIGHT situation. (right situation is not a team which traded club legend Jrich after making playoffs, let go of team captain and fan favorite baron davis after a 48 win season, then systematically trades every other good player on the “We Believe” team). If I was him i’d want out too…
If I had my way we’d trade curry and surround Monta with a complimentary team. A 2 or 3 who can take some playmaking pressure off him (like Iggy for ex.) and put him in a ball movement system as opposed to Nellie trying to run a PG heavy system like he’s CP3 or something
Monta Ellis is not the center of a championship basketball team unless he’s surrounded by other very good players at every other position…it’s more likely that the warriors will trade monta than curry – they’re pretty similar players but one is VASTLY cheaper
by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 3:41 PM PST up reply actions
I love monta
but I’ve said it before on GSoM (Warriors blog). Minus someone REALLY dynamic in frontcourt (perhaps randolph maturing fast) A Curry/Monta backcourt will never make playoffs. not cause they are too short, but because they are too lightweight. Neither guy will ever be big. That being said, monta has a very good contract (11 mil a year for 5 years, and it doesn’t escalate) as he improves it’ll look better…
IF I had my way we’d trade Curry (perhaps try and get Gallinari out of knicks, they were desperate for Curry, and he could help lure Lebron… i’d even take Eddie Curry for Maggette in the deal) and build around Monta but management seems to think otherwise.
Would you consider Monta/Biedrins + Expiring 4 IGuodala and Dalembert.
contractually you would benefit as iggy escalates like crazy… monta is at 11 mil a year for 5 years and biedrins is at 9 mil a year for another 5. I suppose a big factor is whether speights can play 4. If he can, thats a legitimate front court for a near decade.
I'm not gonna lie I love Iggy's game.
I think he’s wildly underrated around the league.
Well your problems trading curry are two fold.
1. If Curry & Ellis are interchangeable in franchises eyes – you keep the cheaper younger guy
2. Reports are that Ellis WANTS out – so he’s unhappy – don’t wanna keep an unhappy guy (plus that hurts his trade value)
And no – you can’t have Iguodala for Biedrins – no no no no no – ellis and biedrins (sorry) aren’t enough for iguodala alone in my book
by jemagee on Nov 18, 2009 10:09 AM PST up reply actions
biedrins is a great young center
on a quality contract who rebounds at an elite level :D
Biedrins is a vastly over rated center who seems to hurt the offense more than he helps the defense
http://www.82games.com/0809/08GSW17.HTM
Biedrins is over rated – Iguodala is under rated – so no

myth
Nellie plays him w/ 4 guards. He is a good man defender, and a great help defender. Team him w/ a legitimate PF and you have a great inside presense….
He is offensively limited, but then again he rarely shoots what he can’t make. and his hands r phenomenal, he can get a lot of inside assists. Plus he just turned 23.
‘myth’
numbers aren’t myths – this is the performance of the team when Biedrins is on and off the court.
It’s how you disprove that reggie evans is a ‘good rebounder’ – with facts – not with excuses…
by jemagee on Nov 18, 2009 2:32 PM PST up reply actions
warriors 26-32 with Biedrins
when he got hurt…. 3-21
I dont see a more telling state than that.
That’s more telling about you than about the staistic itself
The warriors suck and have a coach who is a moron
by jemagee on Nov 18, 2009 5:33 PM PST up reply actions
can't argue with that...
though part of me wants to believe, despite Nellie’s unconventional tactics, it gets most out of a sub par team. (If we went half court w/ standard lineup would we really win more?)
but it is telling that Biedrins is a focal player particularly his rebounding.
The team would be better with a better coach – not larry brown – but i think a up tempo guy – hell put mo cheeks on that team and let them run like the sixers did the last two seasons – the warriors would be better…nelson, like larry brown has some severe megalomania issues

Giving SJack that extension
Warriors management deserved this. It’s painful being a warriors fan. They embarrassed a club legend who was GM of only successful team of last decade plus and went over his head to give stackjack an extension
“As it stands you are a great defensive team”

Would you do...
Monta, Turiaf for Dalembert, Holliday and Young.
For the record I’m a warriors fan that DOESNT want to trade Monta. He actually has been playing some defense this year. Turiaf has two years on his deal. I just can’t stomach getting rid of monta for next to nothing. Just curious how much people like Holliday. I’ve heard varying reports.

No – I wouldn’t (and I’m a HUGE turiaf fan) but you’ll find people willing to make that deal

From the Warriors side. No way in hell a Sixers fan would give up Holliday and Thad for Monta. We already have Monta light in Lou.
Sammy blows, but, no matter what happens, hes GONE after this season. Seeing as how were not winning jack this year anyway, hes not that antivaluable (try finding _that _ in Merriam Webster!).

What about Brand?
Any chance warriors have interest in Brand? They were in the sweepstakes for him before we signed him. Everybody is in a hurry to get rid of Sammy, but Brand is the a way bigger problem in my opinion. Brand and Young for Ellis and somebody else to make the salaries match up.
I don’t think they’ll be interested in brand right now for the lenght of his contract and the injury history – no
