Around SBN: The Pros and Cons of an 18-game NFL Schedule

At this point, anything would be welcomed. For those of you too lazy to click the link, the deal would be a three-teamer with the Kings and Celtics, sending Samuel Dalembert (!!!!) and JR Giddens to the Kings, Andres Nocioni to the Celtics, and Kenny Thomas (memories....), Tony Allen, and BRIAN SCALABRINE BEST BASKETBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME to the Sixers. They're all expiring contracts, hence the attraction.

I don't know if this is a good trade. I don't think it is. But any trade to rebuild at this point is a welcome one. Although it claims serious talks have been made, it's a rumor so take it for what it's worth.

Any trade that gets rid of sam and brings back contracts no longer than sam is a good trade – but kenny thomas on the sixers again? No

by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 6:38 AM PST reply actions

PS – no one has wanted Samuel Dalembert since February, if this happens, i predict say goodbye to draft picks

by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 6:50 AM PST reply actions

oh god if we lose draft picks out of that deal ill smack a bitch

by Michael Levin on Nov 17, 2009 7:55 AM PST up reply actions

The Sixers, frankly, don’t care who comes back in a Dalembert swap as long as their contracts drop off the payroll at season’s end.

By the way folks, if this trade is made, don’t get too excited, aside from losing Sam it doesn’t mean the sixers will spend any more money probably just that comcast will save some

by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 6:54 AM PST reply actions

Exactly, not a penny of the savings will go to improving the talent on the team

They could hold on to Sam till next year and then flip his large expiring for picks or some value… but that won’t happen.

They will either:
-Trade him to save some cash for Comcast next year.
-Buy him out to save some cash for Comcast
-Let him expire next year

Either way I doubt his contract gets flipped for anything of value.

But does it put them higher in the lottery…if this deal goes through the starting center is jason smith? Kenny Thomas? Brian Scalabrine? I mean I Know sam isn’t good, but the defensive rebounding gets that much worse?

by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 7:49 AM PST up reply actions

I’d give Smith a shot starting, keeping an eye on what Jordan wrote about the lineup yesterday. It’s ugly, and mediocrity is this teams destiny, but the most we can hope for is that Holiday gets more minutes and Lou continues to show something running the point. Veterans continuing to block the way of our young guys progressing, that is the worst case scenario. I’d love to try to get some more picks in the draft, but it’s not like we have any assets to speak of.

by Michael Levin on Nov 17, 2009 7:59 AM PST up reply actions

So that would mean...

In 2 years they:

-let their starting PG expire without replacing him
-Signed a new PF for 80M and sent him to the bench
-Unloaded their starting C without replacing him

Sounds like brilliant GM logic. the engine and caboose are heading in opposite directions. Are they rebuilding or just trying to recoup the bad money they invested and team be damned?

no GM logic. I should have verbally slapped him in the ear during that conference call. The Eds are clueless.

A recession, an ownership that answers to stockholders and has to present better earnings to save their falling stock…of course it’s about recouping dollars, as fast as possible.

It’s why I hate corporate ownership

Fagan shot the rumor down by twitter and mentioned that Brand was running with first and second tam in practice

by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 9:48 AM PST reply actions

Dalembert moving on would nice

His bloated contract and inconsistent skills would look much better on someone else’s team. Back before preseason, I was hoping Brand would get a serious shot at being the team’s starting center. It now appears that is his best shot at production as well as for the Philly win column.

Welp..

Rumors about a three-team trade that would send Andres Nocioni to the Celtics appear to have cooled.
ESPN.com is reporting that the Celtics are not interested in Nocioni because of the length of his contract. Without Nocioni, the lynchpin of the rumored trade, any proposed deal would appear likely to collapse. Stay tuned, but for now, nothing is imminent.

Chad Ford claimed the bobcats were interested in Dalembert but nothing on their roster is really that interesting

by jemagee on Nov 17, 2009 2:21 PM PST reply actions

wow....

surprised that teams have interest in him.

He is a solid defender and shot blocker but his contract and all the BS he does on offense (crossovers, fade away jumpers, etc.) really think would scare everyone away.

Larry Brown likes everyone for a week.

Sam’s contract expires next year (Jacksons is longer and the bobcats took on that) so not so terrible at the moment…

Sure, I’d trade him for a box of doritos – but still

Sammy D for KG?

I heard that the Sixers were going to restructure Sammy D’s contract to 15-yr / $290mil then trade him for KG, Rajon Rondo, and Eddie House. Is there any truth to this rumor?

Love the agent

for speaking openly about Sammy looking better elsewhere.

Seems like any commitment to the 76ers is long gone. Definitely have to get rid of him ASAP.

WWhat’s an agent supposed to say? “My client really isn’t very good and has no committment to basketball in the off season, what you see is what you get, foul prone, maybe some good nights, but this is it”

by jemagee on Nov 18, 2009 7:12 AM PST up reply actions

Are you serious?

Boggle You went a completely different direction than I alluded to. It’s the fact that he’s publicly open for Dalembert ready to commit elsewhere. Keep this stuff behind closed doors until you are moved.

You must be new.

Ed Stefanski went public with the sixers trying to trade Sam back in February, if it’s supposed to be a ‘secret’ that the sixers want to trade him it’s the worst kep secret since the fake moon landing.

Always amusing to read other team's fan comments

Someone saying how Noccinoni is some kind of building block?

And how Thomas will get them something great as a valuable expiring? Sounds like us last year talking about what we would get for Miller’s expiring deal.

They want to unload Noccioni. We want to unload Sam. No one really wants those players with their current deals. They are just hoping Boston is willing to morgage their future for an ovverpaid bench addition.

Boston supposedly already passed on Nocioni – maybe they saw how posey is fungible and NOH over paid for him?

by jemagee on Nov 18, 2009 10:07 AM PST up reply actions

Honestly

Getting rid of Dalembert is probably the best solution to anything to make us better. His regular IQ I’d put at around 90, meaning his basketball IQ is probably closer to negative 50. Sure he may be ridiculously athletic for a 7 footer, but he is almost never in the right position to take advantage of that fact. Jason Smith is a solid role player who I believe definitely gives us a better shot at winning consistently as a starter than Sammy. Plus, our young players are only going to get better. From Young, Speights, Smith, and now Holiday, I believe recently we have drafted pretty damn well. Letting these guys play will improve us the long run and hurt us this season, hopefully giving us a Top 5 pick and the star we have been lacking since Iverson in his prime. Picture Iverson with all the young talent we have now in 2001, we would be great.

by Tony4251 on Nov 18, 2009 10:42 AM PST reply actions

i wouldn’t be crying if that happened. Letting the young guys play is the best plan.
