Sixers lose to Williams-less Jazz 112-90

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo -- uhhhh -- booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo -- ahhhh -- booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

I will refrain from any 3,000 word rants tonight for two reasons:

  1. No one likes a sore loser/pessimist/cry-baby.
  2. I will regret it later.

At least DiLeo’s teams played defense.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 6:33 PM PST up reply actions

I honestly think that

Eddie Jordan does NOT know what do u with our players. He doesn’t know how to use our players. It’s his responsibility to put the players into the right positions to make plays! Nice Reid quote drop huh. Haha! Anyway…Eddie Jordan needs to rethink his goals whatever they might be, cuz what he’s doin is not working right. And it’s blatantly obvious. Hey Eddie..next!

"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."

Who will be the last fan standing for this team

Because I’m pretty close to walking out 15 minutes into the movie.

posted this at real GM regarding Stefanski and whether he should be the GM:

Ed inherited a team in Dec 2007 with several young players and only 1 big contract (Sam’s.)

So far Ed Stefanski’s track record is:

-Trade away KK for nothing
-Trade away Caney for nothing
-Give contract extension to Mo Cheeks
-Then promtly fire Cheeks and replace with DiLeo (a year of interim treading water)
-Hire Eddie f’n Jordan
-SIGN injured 30 year old Brand to 5 year 80M when rest of team 3 years away from being ready (Ages 19-21)
-Pay Iguodala 6 yr 80M when he was a restricted FA with no other offers
-Pay Lou 5 year 25M (prob about right)
- Refuse to trade away Andre Miller and then got nothing for him

Its hard to say any of those decisions have turned out to be good ones. The only good move was drafting Speights – which arguably was as much Dileo as anything.

Left out trading away a #1 pick for nothing (from KK trade, traded away in Carney trade.)

The only decisions I am still okay with are Iguodala’s deal & Lou’s deal, and I am still a touch iffy on the amount.

Fire the Eds!

I was at the Wachovia tonight

As I watched Maynor start, Jrue sat on the bench till the last 1.3 minutes. This is un explainable.

You have done a great job above talking of our great GM.

Ya’ll will not have to worry about my comments for now. Unless I wake up tommorrow feeling different, I will not longer be wasting time blogging and reading blogs on the 76ers till one of the following happens:

1. One of the Eds are fired
2. Jrue plays as the first guard off the bench with M16 without Green and Ivey on the floor.
3. Green gets cut or traded.

I enjoy everyone’s thoughts but this is just not enjoyable anymore and realized tonight that I bought my season tickets to enjoy the game and I am no longer enjoying it. I will be hit and miss to the games.

I will from time to time see where the fireeddiejordan blog is doing! Good bye! May see some of you Good Phight!

I wonder who will be the last fan left

hope you can find a way to enjoy the team… and the blog. We are all going to really be rewarded some day when the Sixer are good- it just may take a while… a long while :)

Jrue must come off the bench as backup

Per EJ, Jrue is the best facilitator on the team. Really? Then, let him facilitate. Giving him the last 2 minutes and the game before that, pulling him for a rookie mistake, is not giving this man a chance. Jrue is the future, and he can be your present future – he can lead in assists – and we need the bigs scoring more (if they can get the ball), he can play defense, and he can score if you let him. Give him a chance, EJ. What do you have to lose?

by LadyLiberty on Nov 14, 2009 8:43 AM PST up reply actions

Pretty bad resume. Like Mojo, I’m still okay with the Andre and Lou deals.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 8:44 PM PST up reply actions

Trading Korver and Carney allowed him to sign Brand – they were foreward thinking moves…they failed but they weren’t for nothing.

I’ve been through some really tough times as a fan, but this Sixers franchise has been tough to swallow over the last couple (insert time frame).

(Note: It was made when Eddie Jordan was the Wizards coach.)

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:06 PM PST reply actions

My hatred for EJ knows no bounds. Under his idiotic regime the Wizards have been one of the worst teams in the league defensively and have the absolute lowest basketball IQ. He has ridden the talents of Gilbert Arenas for long enough. It’s time for the Wizards to dump this loser and get an legit NBA coach in here.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:06 PM PST up reply actions

I can’t even watch this team play any more. between the lack of intensity early in games, the lack of defensive rebounding, the wide open 3s, its just too frustrating.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:06 PM PST up reply actions

Wow. The sixers really hired the right coach for a team that already had these problems to begin with. Nice.

by FuquaManuel on Nov 13, 2009 9:23 PM PST up reply actions

Of course they did! Did you hear about the show he put on with a piece of chalk and blackboard? It went on for four hours!

It's Time For a Change

EJ is trying to satisfy management, his monied players, and staying true to his thing about putting limits on rookies. EJ, if you are reading this, the fans want to see exciting basketball and see a team with a winning attitude. RE-think your rookie hang-up. Jrue Holiday can be your present future if you give him a chance. Do something crazy. Give him 20+ minutes, long enough to work out the kinks and get into a rhythm. Let him defend, make the assists, run the offense, make things happen with steals and forcing turnovers. This guy can play – and has the hunger to want to win. I know it is counterintuitive with all of the multimillion guys demanding minutes. But do you want to win, or satisfy egos?

by LadyLiberty on Nov 14, 2009 8:54 AM PST up reply actions

It’s time for a change. This team needs a greater commitment to defense – Eddie has had opportunities to do this, and our defense has only become worse. And I find his favoritism to be completely unprofessional.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:07 PM PST up reply actions

any coach with half a brain would play Andray over Ruffin..but not you you moron. Fire Eddie!

Insert Jrue for Andray and Ivey for Ruffin.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:08 PM PST up reply actions

Amen

Jrue should come off the bench before these two guys. Give him a chance to prove himself. Eddie Jordan has a big hangup about thinking that rookies can’t start, can’t play with the veterans on the court. Look at Taj Gibson, Maynard, Demar Derojan – and I’m forgetting many other rookies who are either starting or playing major minutes off the bench. Let Jrue in, and let him in long enough to get comfortable and in a rhythm. And then watch Philly improve their record, their confidence, their everything….EJ, time to start re-thinking your next move.

by LadyLiberty on Nov 14, 2009 8:58 AM PST up reply actions

you wouldn`t happen to be Jrue Holliday`s parental guardian, would you?

by jefu on Nov 15, 2009 6:07 PM PST up reply actions

Jordan’s the reason fans boo Haywood. Brendan’s a far better player than Eddie Jordan is as a coach. Washington’s success is due to Arenas, Jamison, Butler, and when he plays Haywood. Jordan’s total disregard of statistics that point to the ineffectiveness of Jarvis Hayes has led me to conclude he’s biased in favor of Hayes. Same for Etan Thomas. Jordan plays favorites and is a close-minded coach. Play veterans, tough guys, and guys that show effort is the reason Blatche never plays while Ruffin often does, as the Wizards lose. Blatche and Haywood are by far the best offensive rebounders on the team, but Jordan would rather get beat playing short Cs and small ball. I think Eddie Jordan is very overrated as a coach, and the Wizards will be terrible defensively as long as his staff and his pet players are on the team. Lastly, he’s going to get swept in the playoffs before he realizes Mason’s a better shooter than Stevenson.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:09 PM PST up reply actions

Exceptional as individual talents, mediocre as a team – It could only be the coachs fault.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:10 PM PST up reply actions

sounds painfully familiar

by Michael Levin on Nov 14, 2009 7:11 AM PST up reply actions

What ridiculous subsitution patterns. Why haven’t we seen Blatche in the playoffs, especially given the defensive rebounding difficulties?

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:07 PM PST reply actions

Read all those quotes.

And you’d think they were describing this year’s Sixers team to a tee.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:11 PM PST reply actions

Also not good signs.
He’s holding this franchise back. His “leading” this team to 3 straight playoffs happens to coincide with the arrival of Arenas and Jamison, Hughes having a career contract year, and Butler making his first all star game. Is he leading, or along for the ride?
Misconception: Eddie Jordan hasn’t led the Wizards to three straight playoff appearances, he’s been riding the “Hibachi” for the last three years. Stop giving credit where none is due!
This man is being carried by 3 extremely talented players and the extension he signed last summer set this team back years. Please, its time to go in a different direction.

by Jordan Sams on Nov 13, 2009 9:12 PM PST reply actions

Well, I could probably write a 3000 word rant but it would be eerily similar to other rants, this team is exactly the same as it has been for years.

I was watching other stuff even though I still get NBA league pass, i turned on for 5 seconds when i got home – saw them getting spanked mid 3rd and turned it off.

Where all those ‘should win’ folks?

by jemagee on Nov 14, 2009 8:10 AM PST reply actions

IMO, I think a better coach with a strong defensive philosophy would do wonders for this team. Somebody like Thibodeau or Turner in Houston would’ve been better. They’ve had similar issues previous years but not nearly to this extent. The problem is that Ed Stefanski made 3 major errors(Signing Brand, Keeping Miller & Hiring Jordan).

This was not a win-now team, this team is win-later team. They needed to develop the young core together with hustling Vet Journeymen Chaperones(Like an Ollie or a Ratliff). With the exception of Brand, every key member is 25 or under, with most under 23. They need seasoning and a consistent identity. With their roster, they should be a defensive-minded running team that shares the ball. Let Andre, Thad, M16, Jrue grow together, get a defensive center(like Alabi in the draft?), with a rotation of Lou(as a Barbosa redux), Smith, another rugged banger and a wing sniper who can defend(maybe Carney?). There is a 9-man rotation that could be something in the future with the right coach. Just my opinion

by MojoPharoah on Nov 14, 2009 12:24 PM PST up reply actions

You know, people keep saying ‘Thibodeau’, and I understand he gets a lot of credit in Boston, but the past TWO off seasons he’s been the ‘hot name’ in coaching vacancies and yet he hasn’t gotten a job. Now maybe it’s because the celtics give him more money or leeway or promised him he’ll take over after Doc (which is unlikely or he wouldn’t even interview) but I’m beginning to wonder if there’s something in Thibodeau not cut out to be a head coaching job.

by jemagee on Nov 14, 2009 12:57 PM PST up reply actions

I considered that too. But I’d rather go out and try something new, maybe get lucky, rather than fail with a Retread, right? At least, they would play D under Thibs.

Jordan’s flaws have been displayed for multiple jobs without any time to really adapt his approach. If you are going to do a retread, he cannot be allowed to just repeat old mistakes in new places. As an example, Alvin Gentry seems to be a much better coach this time around, he has learned since his last chances and raised his level, adding the D’Antoni approach with a stronger commitment to defense and rebounding. Hence why that team is improved.

by MojoPharoah on Nov 14, 2009 3:11 PM PST up reply actions

Don’t get me started on the whole retread thing the NBA is in love with.

Hollinger made a comment in his chat on friday about Rambis trying force the players to fit the triangle instead of adapting the triangle to the players…I immediately thought of Jordan – and asked Hollinger

by jemagee on Nov 14, 2009 4:48 PM PST up reply actions

That is absolutely a good analogy. That’s why I was not encouraged by the whole search. If they were really being honest, this team is not going to really have a shot to contend before 2012, depending on how some pieces develop. You can afford to gamble on an “unproven” guy who has paid his dues, rather then recycle. I would have went for Turner, or Brian Shaw in LA or Thibs. At least interviewed them

by MojoPharoah on Nov 14, 2009 7:44 PM PST up reply actions

Agreed

When this team plays better defense, they play better on offense. They are a fast break team, but they are a different fast breaking team than teams like the suns. The suns can run even after a made basket, mostly because they have nash. Sixers don’t do this and i dont think they can do this. They need to force turnovers to start their break and a defensive coach would help

by scarhart3 on Nov 14, 2009 1:48 PM PST up reply actions

They lack commitment to the running game and the defensive end. Classically speaking, both the 80’s Lakers and 60’s Celtics were running teams that were fueled by their D, yet also ran after makes and misses. That is what the Sixers need

by MojoPharoah on Nov 14, 2009 3:13 PM PST up reply actions

Look I love the sixers...And will ALWAYS support this team

But I will not support a problem on the team whether it’s a: Coach, Player, or Upper Management, that holds us back from moving forward and succeeding! I know its only been 9 games into the season…but in those 9 games, we’ve witnessed the same kind of problems and have witnessed no significant improvements. Eddie J is ridiculous in every way. We have talent. We also have players that are hungry to prove themselves ie Jrue Holiday! We can all see that Jrue is the better PG as he possesses that TRUE PG mentality. Pass the ball first, and get it into your other weapons hands. I can score, but he looks to assist his teammates. He also loves to play Defense and is good at it. Lou has a shoot first mentality and struggles play’n defense! Eddie J is a joke and I will not take him seriously
