If its young players develop into stars, or can be traded for a star or two, Philly's future will look brighter. But right now we expect the franchise to remain mired in mediocrity.

I don't have insider...

But that sounds about right.

The NBA is a star driven league. If you have no superstar and don’t have financial flixibility for another 4 years you are not going anywhere… despite all of the solid young talent.

That’s why I would sacrifice a young player (Speights or Thad) in order to get out from under Brands contract. I’m not saying Brand will remain a lousy player… just that his deal will limit what this team can do.

Having a superstar is important. But tanking doesn’t always get you one (and then you have to spend time putting together all the pieces.

No easy answers, but that doesn’t bake the future brighter.

I was mostly teasing

Continued mediocrity and bad free agent contracts wont’ get you a super star either, it’s a combo of luck (cleveland) or a really smart GM (Remember jerry west didn’t draft kobe, he traded for him) or another gm being stupid (chris paul, brandon roy)

I disagree with the outlook by BSPN, but that is not unusual.

One thing that keeps me hopeful is the absolute youth of the teams nucleus. If you exclude Brand from the mix, everyone is 25 and younger, with most of them under 23. There is a lot of time before the core hits their prime, which is why the Brand thing, and the Miller thing before it was so problematic. This team is not built to win now, but build into being competitive when the core is pretty much either in their prime or quickly approaching it at the same time. Andre is a star verging on super, Thad could become one, so could M16 & Jrue(especially with his measureables combined w/defensive skill, work ethic and playmaking). Lou & Smith look like potentially solid rotation guys, especially Smith with his extended range. Lou has mostly impressed on O, but not on D, which relegates him to spark-plug. What they need is a solid defensive center, preferably around the same age as the core, and they are good to go in a couple of years.

on NBA fastbreak

it was mentioned that the sixers are in talks of getting Stephen Jackson for Sammy Dalembert.

Do we do the trade?

yes. if there is anyone willing to take him off the sixers hands, idc who it is at this point, do it!!! plus jackson can be a really good natural scorer which is what this team lacks

No – that’s a stupid trade…it’s bad financially it’s bad locker room and it’s bad for player development

Also a BS rumor I think

It’s a garbage article. It discounts the Sixers current talent level. Each player in the starting lineup is a top 10 player at their position. Speights is a top 10 player at his position off the bench. If the team plays the way it should be capable of, they should start winning games this season. Iguodala should be putting in 20 per game at least, Young and Williams should be scoring 15-20 ppg. And Brand should eventually get back to 16 and 8. Speights will also give us a double-double if he gets his 30 plus min. Everyone sees them as mediocre, simply because they are under-performing at the beginning of the season.

Both the coach and the players have some learning to do and they’ve managed a .500 record thus far. As they get more comfortable and the coach tweaks the line-up a bit the next 8 games can turn out better and well start to see improvement in how the writers see the Sixers.
