How do you feel now - 1st game over reaction edition
So we all know Jordan made his poll about how everyone felt on about the team on a scale from 1 to 10. 52% of the people who replied were at a 7 or higher (30% were 9 or highter even)
Well no we've played a game, so let's recap.
I'm going from articles, I did not see the game.
Dalembert got his traditional 2 fouls in the first half and sat but in the third he picked up THREE quickly...and per usual, make or miss, he was taking shots he shouldn't ever be taking. Iguodala shot for shiznit.
Then there's the things that are always problems, since the end of the freaking larry brown era. Bad 3 point defense? Check. Bad 3 point shooting? Check. Crappy Free throw shooting? Check. Not enough assists on baskets? (Ok that's just a pet peeve of mine, the A:FG ratio I call it, shouldn't be below .5 ever) Check.
Admittedly, I didn't see the game, but I have to think the 37 points in the 4th quarter were because the Magic starters were resting after kicking the living crap out of the team for 3 quarters. Yes the sixers 'averaged' 25 points a quarter like Jordan wanted, but in the 3 quarters that mattered, they only scored 69 (23 per quarter) but they gave up 98. But let's ignore the 2nd quarter as an aberration if you want, they STILL gave up 29 and 28 in the 1st and 2nd respectively. I don't care if you average 25 points a quarter offensively Coach Jordan if you give up 28.5 points a quarter - you'll lose every game.
So - Where do you stand now? This is Philadlephia folks, we over react after ever pitch oin a baseball game, we're ready to get rid of McNabb after Kevin Kolb shreds the Kansas City Chiefs - tell me or tell Eskin :)
yes, it was the Magic, yes the magic are probably the best team in the east right now (at least to me, Shaq makes the cavs worse in my opinion and the celtics are older and have a pouting all star point guard looking to leave after this season), yes the sixers probably should have lost this game, but as I understand it from reading and comments, they were embarassing in the way they lost.

Oh yeah, I didn’t vote in Jordans poll but I think i’ve been pretty clear where my expectations were, so last not didn’t change my mind one iota, but I am aggravated Holiday wasn’t even active – it’s just stupid

BTW, I don’t feel much different after one game. They were as awful as I’ve seen in a long time, but it’s still one game.

Love that you think Shaq downgrades the Cavs. I thought I was the only one who thought that.
Orlando is probably the best team in the East. They are defending East champs.

Defending East champs doesn’t equate best in the east – the magic did a lot in the off season that many think wasn’t a good idea.
You aren’t the only one who thinks Shaq downgrades the cavs, David Thorpe thinks it as well.
My worries are due to the ginormous planet sized ego that Shaq has

i still think
hovering around .500 will be the final outcome (whether above or below who knows) – but i’m still at a 9 in excitement i just love the game of basketball so it’s more of an excitement that the season started

i know my expectations for the first game were unreasonably high, but...
I have a big problem with EJ saying “I don’t think we were as bad as it looked”. I’d have to disagree with Mr. Jordan on that one and I’d be very dissappointed if Eddie didn’t try to light a fire under their asses, especially during half-time after the disgusting second quarter.

Well if you just look at the final score than he’s right – they weren’t as bad as it looked.
They were worse.

ugly game, but conclusions tough to draw
But let’s ignore the 2nd quarter as an aberration if you want, they STILL gave up 29 and 28 in the 1st and 2nd respectively. I don’t care if you average 25 points a quarter offensively Coach Jordan if you give up 28.5 points a quarter – you’ll lose every game.
No doubt. But if you do throw out the second quarter (and ignore the 4th), then they were down a total of six points over a span of two quarters to one of the clearly acknowledged elite teams in the whole league. Who they’re playing counts. This Bucks game is a truer test of where they are.
Speights, like every center in the league, had some trouble handling DHo, but do you have a link to even one article that said Speights played defense like garbage?

If your team consistently falters in the second quarter (as they did gain tonight against the much less good Bucks) – then who cares if you’re ‘only’ outscored by 6 in the third?
the second quarter counts…

My over reactions
Brand will never be the same, he will not get back into good form. 14pts, 8reb will be his avg. stats.
Speights will be the sixers’ best player if he plays like he did against the magic. He was the only sixer who really got into the game, who showed passion.
Andre Iguodala will have an off year.
Now those are some over reactions, I hope none of them actually happen.

At what point does ‘piss poor second quarter play’ become a legitimate concern, it’s only 2 games in, but they’re 2 for 2 in that category
