23-17
20-20
Enemy: Mavs Moneyball
Prediction: 103-95 Sixers
1:00 PM est
TV: CSN
Previous meetings: 96-86 L
Probable starters:
Jason Kidd PG Andre Miller
Antoine Wright SG Willie Green
Devean George SF Andre Iguodala
Dirk Nowitzki PF Thaddeus Young
Erick Dampier C Samuel Dalembert

8 in a row? Once again, I don't see why not. During our recent success we've beaten good teams, bad teams, fat teams, skinny teams. We've won at home. We've won on the road. We've blown teams out and won close games. I still haven't gotten word on whether Elton will play this game or not, but I have a gut-feeling that he'll return. He probably won't play much, but he could still be a distraction we don't need right now. Can't Elton just wait until this winning streak is over? Or when Andre Iguodala starts to suck again?

It will be way interesting to see what happens when Elton returns-if we'll keep playing well or go back to sucking, and if we go back to sucking what does Stefanski do? I'm on the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" bandwagon right now, but we can't just not play our "best player", so we'll see.

Josh Howard is questionable for the game, but the Sixers don't care. They ain't scared of J-Ho.

Perimeter defense is the key to the game. Surprise, surprise. I'll be flying in from San Diego to watch the recorded game, so I won't be here for the open thread, but this will be the final game thread I miss (for those of you that care), but I'll be able to watch it and put up a recap tomorrow night.

The game will mark the halfway point of the season. After the way we started the season 21-20 sound good to me.

Let's go Sixers!

Damn working holiday (then again my league pass has been down all weekend) no chance to see any part of this game – people with days off – help a guy out?

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 8:24 AM PST reply actions

still upset about the game yesterday. Will try and watch.

by Ben16 on Jan 19, 2009 9:13 AM PST up reply actions

Gotta let it go – it’s been over 12 hours – what’s next – move forward – don’t look back

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 9:16 AM PST up reply actions

Phillies re-signed Madson @ 3 years, 12 million. Happy day. Makes yesterday hurt a bit less. Always looking forward.

There is still no official injury update as it relates to Mavs-at-Sixers, but courtside spies tell DB.com that at this precise moment 11:12 a.m. Philly time, less than two hours before tipoff, Dallas’ Josh Howard has not been on the floor working out but that Philadelphia’s Elton Brand is doing so.
Howard (wrist) has missed four straight; Brand has missed 15 games with a separated shoulder.

So basically at 10AM in the morning EB is working on his game and Josh Howard is out back smoking, or maybe its just the morning muchies?

Not much of a surprise.

OR, you know, he’s hurt and not playing :)

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 9:08 AM PST up reply actions

brand

will likely sit this game out. hes said that the dislocated shoulder should take 6 weeks to heal and were at almost 5 weeks.

if he sits out this game then EBs got tuesday-friday for extra rest and conditioning before the home game against the knicks on saturday

by jmorcate on Jan 19, 2009 9:26 AM PST reply actions

When it first happened the reports were a month – which always seemed short to me.

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 9:29 AM PST up reply actions

Gotta defend

We HAVE to defend homecourt today. We havent been all that great at home this year (albeit better than the road) and this is a big game. Not to mention I have 15 cents riding on this at http://www.centsports.com/?opcode=285692 hehe

by Hansborough on Jan 19, 2009 9:28 AM PST reply actions

11-8 at home 9-12 on the road, so I’m thinking maybe better at home than on the road?

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 10:04 AM PST up reply actions

I wouldn’t put more than a dime on this one (and prob for the other team) but that’s just me. We live in tough economic times.

I took the over :) 200 seems pretty much a given on this

BTW – Yahoo lineups are up – no Brand listed

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 9:33 AM PST up reply actions

No Brand

damn, i really wish he would come back soon. we’re a completely different team with the big fella

by Hansborough on Jan 19, 2009 9:53 AM PST reply actions

Yes – so far this season not as good when Brand plays…I want him 100% healthy and I’m fine if it takes the entire season

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 9:55 AM PST up reply actions

they are saying that they expect him to return on Sat. vs the Knicks.

Long term or short term?

Short term – the cavs lakers celtics i’d swap in a heartbeat

Long term – i still like portlands roster better than the sixers – top to bottom – LONG term

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 11:00 AM PST up reply actions

long term

and I’m might be crazy or biased, but is the blazers roster really that much better?

I think so – think about positional needs – long term – they don’t have any – they have a guy who is going to be a real good center – centers take time and oden is a rookie – the blazers have more players with more upside at EVERY position than the sixers -

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 11:14 AM PST up reply actions

ehhh

I think oden’s just a big name. gimme speights over aldridge or oden

The way they have been closing lately, so am I. Still, I have learned over the past few seasons that with this team, no lead is big enough.

by FuquaManuel on Jan 19, 2009 11:14 AM PST up reply actions

Not only that – you’ve learned to never ever be comfortable with a lead of any sort in any sport :)

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 11:15 AM PST up reply actions

You are right. But especially the Sixers. Just watch…I will be completely different for the ’09 Phillies season. They got their championship and I am looking forward to not sweating the small stuff with them for at least one season. You will see, just wait!

It’s the NBA – every team makes a run
the Mavs aren’t pushovers
and oh yeah, the FT disparity is insulting at home – almost like that PI no call yseterday (both of em)

You will notice that my posting was especially sparse between december 17 and Jan. 14…I was at home enjoying my break and not posting during games. It was not just during the wins that I was absent. The losses also. Sorry to disappoint you by failing to live up to your expectations of me.

Why, were you being funny? Or was I? Please tell me directly instead of making ambiguous statements such as the above.

by FuquaManuel on Jan 19, 2009 12:02 PM PST up reply actions

Well, let me answer it this way then

I’ve never seen you be funny :)

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 12:03 PM PST up reply actions

You have never seen me…ergo, you have never ‘seen’ me be funny.

by FuquaManuel on Jan 19, 2009 12:13 PM PST up reply actions

Hence proving my point.

Try not to take things too literally ok? Lifes happier that way – you seem pretty angry – and coming from me that’s saying something

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 12:16 PM PST up reply actions

humor is subjective. frankly, I don’t find you particularly funny much of the time. Does that make you unfunny? No.

If you don’t find me funny, it doesn’t mean I am not funny. I will not go out of my way to try to be what you would consider “funny.”

If I seem angry, it is only because i don’t like being dragged into meaningless internet discussions about my lack of humor.

by FuquaManuel on Jan 19, 2009 12:23 PM PST up reply actions

And yet you keep participating in them…

by jemagee on Jan 19, 2009 12:36 PM PST up reply actions

The win streak wasn’t going to last forever – losses were inevitable – it’ll be shame to finish the first half under 500 (but unsurprising to me) – like to see them make a game out of it from now until the end – at least ‘win’ the fourth quarter – but this is one of those ‘this is how far the team has to go’ games.
