Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

Sixers lose by one.

95-94

Indy Cornrows has a good recap of the Pacers gutsy win.

Update: I probably should have watched this before writing anything. Looks like I was right about a Speights dunk. One more thing I got from those highlights is, even though Iguodala is supposed to be our franchise player and go-to guy, I'm not comfortable with him handling the ball with the clock running out. Give the ball to Lou-Will or even Andre Miller.

I was supposed to watch the game, but I also planned on being in a much better mood. I planned on not knowing the final outcome before coming home. I also have to pack for my flight tomorrow morning, but enough excuses.

Here's what I gathered from the box score.

-T.J. Ford his the go ahead jumper with 3.9 seconds to go. Good thing I didn't watch this. I wouldn't have been able to handle it.

-I can't believe what I'm seeing! A good game from Sammy D?! 36 minutes, 11 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks! Someone please tell me these numbers aren't a mirage.

-Looks like Andre Miller played a hell of a game. 14-10-12 for the triple-double and he had zero turnovers. What a man.

-Iggy also had some nice numbers. 26-6-6.

-Lou continues to put up big numbers, but it looks like he struggled from the field. 5-15.

-Willie Green only played 13 minutes. Out of all the stats, this might be my favorite.

-Mo Speights is so tight. 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 blocks in 24 minutes. I'm guessing he also mixed a couple nice dunks in there.

The one point loss hurts. It puts our record at 12-15 going into a ridiculous road trip.

@Boston

@Denver

@Utah

@Clippers

@Dallas

@San Antonio

That's rough. The Clippers look to be the easiest opponent, but don't let them fool you. They've been playing pretty good ball since the Zach Randolph trade.

As you know, I'll be out of town for the first two of the road trip and I fully expect to come back to a 12-17 team.

Game threads will still be up for your convenience. I'll schedule them to be published tonight. I'll do my best to get on here in the next 5 days or so and if anyone wants to write legitimate recaps of games in the FanPosts, I'll be happy to publish them for all Liberty Ballers to read.

Tonight was disappointing to say the least, but it's nothing a little hot chocolate, packing, Madden and Home Alone 2 can't fix. Peace for now.

Have the sixers ever said Iguodala is the franchise guy or are the fans just labelling him the franchise game cause they want him to be and the money he makes – he isn’t a franchise type player – he never was- anyone who expects him to be is fooling themselves (and sorry, he’s still not over paid even if he isn’t a franchise player)

Highest paid player before Brand

Young, talented, face of the franchise. Sonetimes these things are just a given.

I agree to a certain extent about him being overpaid. he’s not ridiculously over paid, but I’d still like to get a little more out of 80 million dollars.

I’d still like people to have a little perspective – it’s barely the quarter season, it’s a new coach and they still have a new player to integrate and it’s not like he’s making 80 million dollars this year.

BTW – Rashard Lewis makes over 100 million in his contract – and he STILL ain’t the franchise player.

This team has so many problems the constant blaming of Iguodala just shows a myopic undeserved ‘hatred’ of Iguodala in my opinion…get gets more money doesn’t make him a different player.

It's just kind of a given dude.

Rashard’s not the franchise player because everyone knows Dwight is.

And Iggy just carries himself as the franchise player. He acts like it’s his team both on and off the court. And I’m not comfortable with that just yet.

I don’t see it that way nor have I ever.

Make up your mind though – you said one of the reasons he was the franchise player is that he’s the highest paid player before brand (and wouldn’t that make brand the highest paid player)

So – is amount of salary made one of the qualification for fans deciding who is a franchise player or not?

There's many factors and that's one of 'em.

Without Brand who would you consider the franchise player?

Usually the player with the ball in his hands at the end of games is considered the franchise player and that’s Iguodala.

of course iggy is the “franchise player”.. it’s more of the way he carries himself on and off the court like jsams said than it is the contract – although the $80 million extension pretty much iced it

iggy is going to go down in philly sports history as just another one of those guys who doesn’t seem to flourish in the spotlight, especially one as bright as the city of brotherly love’s.. it reminds me of bobby abreu’s stay with the phils and mcnabb’s current run with the birds.. all great players, all put up numbers, but none could ever live upto philly fans’ expectations

Or maybe the sixers don’t have a franchise player so everyone just picks Iguodala (and if you had any respect for him you’d stop calling him a nickname he openly hates)…not every team HAS a franchise player…it’s a term that’s thrown around too easily by fans – but there are NOT 30 franchise players in the NBA…some teams have more than one…some teams don’t have any.

As of now the sixers don’t have any – but they have two younger candidates.

iggy is going to go down in philly sports history as just another one of those guys who doesn’t seem to flourish in the spotlight, especially one as bright as the city of brotherly love’s.. it reminds me of bobby abreu’s stay with the phils and mcnabb’s current run with the birds.. all great players, all put up numbers, but none could ever live upto philly fans’ expectations

So what you’re saying is that Iguodala, like Abreu and McNabb will suffer in the eyes of Philadlephia fans because they are too stupid to appreciate the player? Well that I can understand, as the national media lambasts Philly fans for being so idiotic on both Abreu and McNabb – calling for Kevin Kolb is idiocy beyond belief (and I won’t get into the thing that really bugs me about all the idiocy)…maybe Iguodala will get what he truly deserves then…traded to a team with a fan base that will appreciate what he can do and how good he is and not just lament what he can’t do like they did with Abreu and with McNabb (god the eagles are going to suck next year with Kevin Kolb while McNabb thrives somewhere else and all the ‘true philadelphia’ fans who are all over kolb from the first mistake will just be laughed at)

ok ok i’ll stop calling him iggy, maybe i’ll start calling him overpaid jackass instead

no but seriously, i agree with you that every team doesn’t have to have a franchise player.. but the way they market him and he markets himself, you can’t argue that if you had to choose a player from each team to designate as the franchise player – it’d be overpaid jackass

and, i’m completely with you on the typical philly fan’s inability to appreciate a player.. i loved abreu for what he did as a fightin.. i continue to be one of the only people i know who supported/supports mcnabb and think that once 90% of eagles fans finally get what they want (mcnabb gone), they’re gonna be very very sorry.. the thing that really baffles me with mcnabb is – look at all the bust qbs from that draft.. where would the birds be had we gotten a tim couch or cade mcnown? nowhere near 3 nfc championship games and 1 superbowl appearance.. i’m just saying iguodala gets thrown into the mix of guys with unrealistic expectations thrown upon them due to circumstances beyond their control

1. Iggy has unrealistic expectations for himself and that’s why most fans have them.

2. He needs to stop complaining about stuff. I’ll stop calling him Iggy when either A. He plays like a player who deserves to choose their nickname or B. He earns a nickname like Chauncey has with Mr. Big Shot. Until then it’s Iggy for me.
