Philadelphia 76ers should choose Thaddeus Young over Andre Iguodala
<!-- TOKEN_1227575047845_TOKEN -->I’m happy that the Philadelphia 76ers has plenty of young talent. They have Lou Williams, Thaddeus Young and Andre Iguodala. All of these young players are going to have good careers. But, the 76ers are 7-6 and their playing like a mediocre basketball team. The 76ers need to choose Thaddeus Young over Andre Iguodala so that the team can become better.

Thaddeus Young is having a great year. He is very athletic, a great dunker and a good scorer. His game has improved so much that he will probably win the NBA’s most improved player award. He is even leading the 76ers in scoring so far at 16.2 points per game. That is double his rookie scoring average of 8.3 points per game. His potential is unlimited and he is only 20 years old. Everyone is surprised by his vast improvement. He has blossomed as a player this year.
However, Andre Iguodala is struggling this year. He is having one of the worst years of his career. For example, he has a .38 field goal percentage and .23 three point percentage. Last season he had a .45 field goal percentage and .32 three point percentage. The plan going into the season was for him to be the primary scoring option or at least the second scoring option. His 12.8 points per game makes him only the fourth best scorer on the 76ers. He can’t figure out how to continually find scoring opportunities and is forcing most of his shots.
Therefore, the 76ers need to trade Andre Iguodala and keep Thaddeus young. Thaddeus Young is younger then Andre Iguodala and is continually becoming better. A few years from now Thaddeus Young possibly could be one of the best small forwards in the NBA. If the 76ers trade Andre Iguodala they could get another shooter or a good young point guard. These are certainly some of their current needs. By trading Iguodala the team will play more cohesively and that will help make them one of the better teams in the eastern conference. Thaddeus Young and Elton Brand are already the number one and two scoring options on the 76ers. And Andre Iguodala isn’t going to be happy being the fourth scoring option so trade Iguodala to make the 76ers an improved team.

I’m confused – why do they have to choose one over the other?
haven’t even played 20% of the games yet – and he’s having a garbage game tonight against a garbage team -

Yeah
They’re both good in different ways. And you forgot to mention Speights ;)
Where will you be when the Sixers hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy? Hopefully Liberty Ballers.
Who would you trade him for?
Iggy leads the team in steals, and he can cover almost any SG in the league. He also fills a lot of roles other than just scoring. Rebounding and assists are among his strengths. I can see the idea, that there don’t really need to be 2 top notch swing men on the team and that a long term solution at point guard could be more valuable, but you don’t really go into detail about who you would trade for. If you just think his time is up on the Sixers, that just seems a little premature to me. He is still a top player in the league, despite him having an off season so far.

Yeah, no bueno on any trade.

Other team needs could be met
Iguodala is a good player and I don’t doubt that, I just think if by the 30 or 40 game mark if this team is still mediocre they should trade him because he has alot of value because of his skills. And they could good get another good player that can fill another need like a shooter or a young point guard. Maybe they could get Raymond Felton from the bobcats at point guard and a shooter like Mike Miller from the Twolves. There also are other young point guards (Randy Foye) out there and shooters (J.J. Redick). The point I’m trying to make is that by trading him, that will make them a more well rounded team.
That's a fair point
but it’s hard to see them trading a guy they just invested 80 million dollars in.

People have always under estimated and under appreciated the completeness of Andre Iguodalas game in so many aspects…

Let’s not forget that Iguodala just signed his contract, so there’s probably some difficulties trading him (which is a dumber idea than willie green and lou williams in the same back court) and getting fair value back
