andre looks...old
i love andre miller. he's been the catalyst for this team's turnaround, and he's easily been their best player since getting here. he's done everything that's been needed, whether it be scoring, selling out on defense, or playing SG alongside louwill, he's done it.
but he's slowed. he's not as quick to jump out and get a hand in the face of a shooter. he's not as quick to get past a perimeter defender and into the lane.
i hope that it's just early season apathy, but miller has struggled with back pain in the past, and he is...shit, he's only 32. he's in his walk year, so even if his career is now on the downside, he's just a $10 million expiring contract.
this team goes as andre goes, so i'm hoping he bounces back, but if he's not healthy, or if he's just in decline, i'd like to see louwill given a chance to start, preferably sooner, rather than later, so as to have a clearer picture of what this team will look like should miller decide to play somewhere else.

I agree.
Where will you be when the Sixers hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy? Hopefully Liberty Ballers.

He’s 32 years old – which is old for basketball – he plays a lot of games – and if you don’t think he look craptacular so far this year, then you should start watching more closely. He’s not running the offense well, he’s shooting WAY too much and he’s a crap shooter from the outside (and always has been)
Most predicted a step back last year and yet some sixer fans think Miller can be as good this year as he was last year which was probably the best overall year of his career.
I stand by the fact that the sixers have held on to miller too long and now it will cost them

“he’s shooting WAY too much”
i agree with this comment. I feel since we have brand, Iggy, and Thad, he should be dishing it out to them more. I think that maybe he has it in his head after last year that he has to score for this team to win? Not sure. He does look a bit slower but that is expected and you can expect that he will have a decline in production this after last year since he put up career numbers. It would be nice to see Lou start but i feel he is more of a score first PG rather than a PG that is a floor general.

you're wrong about that last part
at the worst, if andre turns into a pumpkin and completely collapses, it’s still not all that bad for the sixers.
he has an expiring contract, and you know who is still infatuated with philadelphia. the sixers will probably be under the cap enough to add his 25 and 7 to their lineup without losing anything. the only problem with that scenario is that you’d be playing with 2 SGs, 2 SFs, 3 PFs, and 2Cs in your rotation.
still interesting to think about though.
When they should be sacrifice bunting, they are buying effeminate designer jeans. When they should be fouling off pitches, they are masturbating. Always, they are masturbating.

A. I’m tired of the expiring contract saw, they don’t have the value they used to have unless a lot of people are going to start decimating their teams to try and get lebron james – you won’t get talent.
B. Yes it’s a problem because the sixers have no other NBA caliber point guard on the team if millers detioration is starting and the louis williams experiment isn’t one that will win an nba title.
THis is a problem, and has been so for a couple years now…and the sixers just kind of ignored it.
I’m pretty sure I’m glad they didn’t come to an agreement on an extension…

my latest post on BSG:
this is a good team, but i can’t help feeling they need the answer.
my philosophy with basketball is that if you’ve got a good defense and a good PG, you can win. this team should have an excellent, and i mean top 3 in the league excellent, defense. they’ve got plus defenders and plus rebounders at each starting position, so it worries me to say the following:
i am no longer convinced that andre miller is a good PG.
as of now, i’m assuming that andre miller is leaving after this season. as of now, i’m presuming that anything more than the 8th seed in the eastern conference qualifies as a good season. as of now, i’m rooting for iverson to be brought back into the fold in 2009-2010.
i think iverson is the perfect piece to add to this roster. he hits open shots, he gets to the FT line, and he wants the ball in his hand. he plays solid defense, he spreads the floor on offense, and he runs the floor in transition.
with him, louwill, iggy, thad, brand, sam, reggie, and marreese, they’re a backup wing player away from a potentially tremendous season.
When they should be sacrifice bunting, they are buying effeminate designer jeans. When they should be fouling off pitches, they are masturbating. Always, they are masturbating.

I almost spit up my morning coffee when you suggested Allen Iverson…also not a point guard….he’s neither a short term NOR a long term answer for a team that wants to win a championship.
Nostalgia is a funny thing…

think about it.
with a defense including sam, brand, and iggy, they should be able to hold most every team under 100 points.
with a lineup including iverson, brand, and growing contributions from thad, lou, and marreese, not to mention iggy, they should be able to score 100 points most every night.
i know that iverson isn’t a PG, but he, iggy, and brand can all handle the ball in a half court set. and at the very least, iverson is capable of bringing the ball up court.
i might be nostalgic, but i think this team, with iverson, while imperfect, would be good enough to make a lot of noise next year.

Next year? You’re talking about next year? Where do the sixers get this cap room to sign Iverson – who is a free agent this off season.
I also think you grossly over estimate the defensive prowess of a team that look liked like a sieve allowing the hawks to drive at will, uncontested, on saturday night.
Until Mo’s fired and a good coach is brought in – this team won’t challenge for anything

between trading reggie evans and losing andre miller
i think there’s plenty of money to sign iverson.
and there’s a reason the hawks were able to drive at will, they got hot in the 2nd half. when you hit 5/6 from beyond the arc to start the half, it’s pretty easy to spread the floor, and drive at will.
again, each member of the starting lineup is a plus defender, and a plus rebounder. i think eventually that’s gonna start to show up. and if it doesn’t, i’ll agree with you that mo needs to go.

I’m sorry – when did the sixers successfully find someone to trade for reggie evans and his one dimensional strength?

More sam excuses huh? How does that explain sam moving out of the way when guys drive…
People really seem to have unusually high and unrealistic expectations for this team that aren’t really warranted just because they added elton brand.
Getting Allen Iverson back would just be a mistake in so many ways – especially if you don’t fire Mo
by jemagee on Nov 3, 2008 9:01 AM PST 0 recs
reggie can always be traded to a team like the bombers.
he’s a very good rebounder who plays with a lot of energy, plus he’s got the body to play against NBA PFs.
and foul trouble explains why sam backs away like that.
they’ll be fine; they just probably won’t be all that great this year.

More sam excuses – especiall late in the game – sorry – don’t buy it
Reggie Evans as a ‘very good’ rebounder is one of those things that people say a lot so they believe it’s true, regardless of the supporting documents.

maybe i'm mistaken,
but when a guy averages 14 rebounds per 36 minutes, i think it’s fair to call him a good rebounder. sam is a good rebounder, and he averages 11. brand is a good rebounder, and he averages 9.
i think you’re pretty far off on this one.
the sam excuses are probably closer to the spot.
