What can the Sixers REALLY do this season?

What do u guys think the Sixers can do this season. Now i might just be blabbing on as a 76ers fan but i really think we can go all the wy in a increasingly strong Eastern Conference. The East isnt as much as a joke it used to be. The Celtics and Cavs will give us a run for our money i think, the Pistons are aging and wont be as dominante and the New Orlean Hornets i think are a team that will suprise a lot of people

My predictions

Celtics

Cavs

Sixer

Pistons

N.O.

Raptors

yada yada yada

I think you can mess around with the top 3 a little and i wouldnt object to putting the Hornets in the top for and throwing out the Pistons. What do my fello Liberty Ballers think

???

Dawg, the Hornets are in the Western conference and they are better than just about any Eastern conference team other than the Celtics.

Where will you be when the Sixers hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy? Hopefully Liberty Ballers.

You bring up some good points

I do have to say that the Hornets being in the Western Conference and taking the Lakers to a game 7 in the WCF was kind of a slip up on your part. However, before the season last year, the Hornets weren’t even considered to be a playoff team. Maybe a few people had them going, but as a low seed. Then, poof, they are an NBA force. Honestly, I think they would have matched up better against the Celtics anyway. The point is, that you can’t really tell how well a team can do before they actually start playing together. I do think that the Sixers have a legitimate shot at the east, especially if someone finds an answer to the 3 pointer problem. I don’t think the pistons are going to go downhill very much, but between them, the Cavs, the Magic and the SIxers, the battle for the second spot should be fierce. I’m also not giving it to the Celtics. They have absolutely no bench save KG’s backup (maybe Posey?), and if somone goes down for any significant amount of time they will be severly handicapped.

Enough speculation! Let’s start the season already!

Sergio will explode this year as the best NBA player ever and will take revenge impregnating all Portland and Blazers with the "chocolate" word.

Sixers can either win the east

or be a 7 or 8 seed.

I’ll have a better idea 15 games into the season.

The sixers will come in 3rd in the atlantic and lose in the second round to the celtics.

People are overly euphoric due to the addition of Brand who while a step up doesn’t make anyone on the sixers BETTER at shooting from the outside…and it doesn’t make sam a better basketball player or mo a better in game coach.

Then in the off season miller will leave….and then we got trouble

That's a big thing

The Miller situation that is. It sounds like the Sixers are stuck salary cap wise, even when Miller leaves, right? The way to get something in return is to trade him as an expiring contract before the deadline. This off season there will be a huge market of top flight available free agents and lots of teams want a shot at them. The Sixers can cash in by trading Miller, expiring contract and all, and hopefully getting a nice piece in return. That has to happen by the trade deadline. So, depending on what happens in the course of the season could dictate what happens with that situation. If it’s looking like a title. opportunity, go for it. If it’s looking like a fair playoff run but no future, then it’s time to make the trade. I would say that the Sixers do have options to make a move, but who knows what that will be. Murky waters, but I think there will be a sweet treasure below what we can see right now. Would you say that’s an accurate picture?

Millers value was probably at its most valuable before the Oden/Durant draft, it’s just going down, and as the season progresses it probably goes down a bit more…

You can never undersetimate

the value of a 10m expiring contract. Reaf Lafrentz has a 12m one, he sucks, and he is huge trade bait simply for the expiring contract bit. People want to get below the salary cap if they have a player that they are targeting in free agency.

You can never underestimate the value

of a huge expiring contract. At the end of this season, there are some huge free agents. If a team is targeting one of them and needs to drop a contract to get under the salary cap, that is a huge chip. Reaf Lafrentz sucks, but he has a 12m expiring contract, making him ridiculously valuable trading asset.

You can over estimate the value of an expiring contract by not looking at recent history, and also looking at pending free agents…expiring deals do not have the value they used to – hell look at the last two big ‘expiring’ deals and what the sixers got for them.

I don't know what deals you are talking about

but if you’re GM can’t get good value for a 10m expiring contract in the best off season for free agents in recent history (if not ever), then he just isn’t the man that you think he is.

Why is 2009 the best off season for free agents in history?

Lebron, Bosh, Wade, don’t hit until 2010.
